Oh, alright. I'm wondering if my school will show it, is it oklahoma overall?

I really hate my schools obama bashing, even going as far as to refuse to stand for the pledge of allegiance.

It pisses me off. I don't like obama as much as anyone, but going as far as to say to a teacher that the flag doesn't deserve your attention pisses me the fuck off.

they stopped doing the pledge here i think

    dunno why

    What the fuck?

What the hell is wrong with people. I don't get where all the fucking hate for Obama is coming from. He hasn't done shit yet.

edit: Although I did know a bunch of stupid kids in high school who refused to stand for the pledge of allegiance because they hate America for no real reason besides rebellion or something.

Haha, I remember doing that in school for most of the time I was in school (from like 4th grade to the 12th). I was a stupid little shit.

I grew up in the Air Force so I was like "what the fuck guys"

Because they were stupid little shitheads who don't know what the fuck. I am okay with having problems with the country or whatever. But these people had no concept of history or what the rest of the world is like. They are just so goddamn dumb.

I stopped saying the Pledge of Allegiance in High School after one of the exchange students asked why we prayed to the flag and I couldn't come up with an explanation.

I still stood, though. Respect, ya know?

My favorite bathroom scrawling was one that said "Smash the Patriarchy" and someone had written "that's what she said" underneath.

you don't pray to the flag

the pledge of allegiance isn't a prayer

Because it isn't a prayer. It is a pledge.

    Of allegiance.

But try explaining the difference to a confused German.

    I think that's a good benchmark.

If a confused German can't tell the difference, they're probably pretty similar.

My brother's german ex couldn't even understand why he said 'see you later' to a person at a shop without meaning it literally though.

There is, but it can be ambiguous.

"Freund" can mean "male friend" or "boyfriend". "Freundin" can mean "female friend" or "girlfriend".

Sometimes "Bekannte" is preferred to avoid the ambiguity. Its literal meaning is closer to "acquaintance", but it can be understood more like "friend" depending on context.

German has lots of words for extremely specific things because it forms compound words very easily. It makes the vocab easy to learn.

"Shadenfreude", for example, is made up of "Schaden"-"loss" and "Freude"-"Pleasure". It's less logical than most compounds, though, because it's more of a neologism than a normal compound.

    but that's a pretty reasonable one :|

Oh, while we're sort of talking about it: I remember reading somewhere that a lot of English words that have the exact same meaning as other words are because we got one of them from germanic languages and the other from latin or greek, but I can never think of examples of this. Can anyone else, or does anyone else know anything about this?

so is there a single word for "woman who is ugly because she has had children and there are stretch marks"?

His English was so-so, which is why it was important that he was German.

Try explaining it in a way a young child would understand. It's not impossible, but it's difficult.

Later I started thinking about the words, and it really cemented it. Its a pretty solid oath, and I'm not for making oaths I'm not absolutely certain I'll be able to keep. It makes more sense than the German thing, I think, but I'd be lying if I said it was my original thought process.

It was about the same time that it started bugging me that so may churches have a flag by the altar.
