Well that was kind of a bummer. For once I trusted someone who wouldn't have fucked me over (Houn), but then I die the same night to... some dude with a rifle. Who was on my team. Gah.

Aja wanted to test out color theory hehehe. Since Crimson Coyote was Agent Red.

We weren't the beaten to a bloody pulp part though.

Plus we found you suspicious as always..... *shrugs*

It didn't help that Ed gave Aja and I roles that matched our Exigency Campaign Characters. Had I not been a backstabber, and Aja not been a doctor- I suspect we wouldn't have even given it a thought..

edit: On the positive side, someone else would have killed you anyway.... (the beaten to a pulp bit). So you didn't die for a completely dumb reason...solely

It would've been badass if ryadic, tasty, zetetic, and grid had all joined too and we got to be the old team.

!sign up. I'll pretend I don't know this is a factions game of sorts. Or just break my decision not to play in them :)

And here's to hoping I'm a villager. I've been a special/mafia of some sort for 3 out of 4 games so far.

So, Edcrab, how did you think the HP system turned out? I know you were considering it after the Mini.

I think it worked out all right! Definitely made some of the more powerful roles a little more resistant.

    Some post-game examination:

    4 High Council
9 outsiders (Domarians, Chasers, Task Force)
14 chaotics (Disciples, Followers, SPECTRUM, most Transcendents)
23 Arcadians (including the AERA masons)

Each SPECTRUM player had a one-off 150% attack, but it had to be called in the thread with a quote and a “Requesting artillery fire at these coordinates” statement. Likewise, the group as a whole had a nightly seering power with a similar mechanic; “Requesting background check on this subject”. Potentially could’ve thrown 750% at a single player in the right circumstances, which is a mite ironic considering that the Arcadian Military wasn’t high-health for the most part.

Had SPECTRUM ever reached the stage that they had a lone survivor, that lone survivor would’ve gained several immediate bonus powers that elevated them to a Transcendent-level role. I did not make this explicit, considering the Domarian incident last time, and unfortunately for them they never got the chance.

The Disciples and the Strike Force were destined to work together, and ideally the Followers would’ve become allies of SPECTRUM. SkyCaptain had some rotten luck calling in his conversions- his power only affected Arcadians, and he kept choosing players from different factions.

In a best-case scenario, the Follower(s) would’ve corrupted all the strongest Arcadian roles early, leaving the Disciples and Task Force utterly outgunned. As it was, SkyCaptain never got the chance and SPECTRUM took heavy losses, and the two scenarios that would’ve super-powered their faction (well, in a way) never came to pass.

At the very end of the game, Gumpy could’ve chosen to shaft the Village and kill off Arcadians rather than Chaotics. With a couple of redirected kills, the Chaotics would have outnumbered the Village and you guys would have been looking at a Total Chaotic Victory.

The Transcendents were designed to roam around killing things with impunity- until they started coming to blows, or until the Village began picking them off with vote-kills, which bypassed all their ridiculous defences. As expected, they inevitably started running the show.

Nocturne, who was actually fairly middling by Transcendent standards, did punch Gumpy in the face at one point- taking him below half health and proving that psychic resistance alone won’t always help.

The Task Force was originally the Controller Psychic, Hacker and Expert, and yes, having AJ and Egos in the same team made me decide to shake up the mechanics and turn the CP into a Doctor.

The High Council faction had a good mix of abilities but suffered for being Burnage’s sacrificial team mates- and the guy was constantly getting attacked. On the other hand, if he had ever targeted the New Renegade and met his Win Condition, the surviving High Councillors would’ve been very… different.

Oh, and Houn very nearly got himself killed Night 1. He had virtually every guard power in the game sent his way, and then he made the decision to use his doubling power on Gumpy, who originally planned to attack him. Fortunately for him ol’ Quicken changed his order and sacrificial guards came to his aid, but it might have gone very differently.

Were there any contingencies had I died? Would Nocturne had been tasked with tracking down my killer?

Though that might have been unlikely, given that with him alive, I had the equivalent of 300 health, and a potential 100 damage guard ability on myself.

Damn, to be honest now I wish I could've seen SPECTRUM turn into a giant robot. Egos totally figured it out, though. He knew that it couldn't be that easy. However Egos thought it would happen when all of them were dead. I was all "screw it, kill them anyway!"

    EDIT:
And like I said, our team was perilously close to killing just kuhl and not tt, but I screwed up on coordinating our attacks.

Well you sure were lucky that I ended up getting voted off. Also, I was totally right that Houn was doubling the power of a Transcendent bad guy in this game. He was just doing it unwittingly.

I would have tried to work out a deal with the Quicken and New Renegade if I had had access to the internet. Unfortunately packing up everything in a u-haul truck and moving makes that difficult.

Nope. Robos refused to tell me since I knew no other Transcendents, and would have told you that I refused had I not revealed it to the thread.

I was bluffing to see if you knew anything that could help me!

I expected you to say you didn't know any Transcendents before, you know, going to the thread out of some misplaced sense of justice that only ended up helping me win my game anyway. If you had just said you didn't know anything, I'd have told you Ebfan's name, but still not Rend's.

And of course, if you had known of any other Transcendents, you could have probably convinced me to give up Rend as well as Ebfan.

I was skeptical about Robos's claim, but then after he used his ability on two people and they were still alive, I was like "So Rend, Robos really just wants to look at the Transcendents and that's it?" and he said yes.

I also wanted to wait until Ebfan was out of the game because who knows if they did have some Transcendent smuggling operation going on :P

Let it be known that when Spork incriminated Rend I stuck my neck out for him even though I had nothing to gain by it (well, except maybe the benefit of having the village possibly pick an actual SPECTRUM member to kill). The village was so bad, they didn't kill a single chaotic that a transcendent/outsider/other chaotic didn't manipulate them into killing.

Actually, in general it really worked out that all the Arcadians were just pawns in every other faction's plans. Which was pretty badass for us, but maybe not as much fun for the Arcadians :P.

Given all the crazy powers and transcendents running around, it looked like the Arcadians themselves needed to either enlist the help of one side to get something done or have AERA go on a hot streak.

  • EdcrabEdcrab Registered User
The Arcadians were indeed reliant on exterior factions. They had some good roles (most noticeably the Elder, who fragility aside was on par with a Transcendent) but their only strength was controlling the vote- i.e., the only true vig kill in the entire game, if you discounted the Original Renegade's one-time revenge kill (which didn't kick in because the vote got him). Which is probably why they ended up rolling with the NR in the first place!

Short answer: yes. Long answer? The Village would have been very, very unhappy if both Rend and Nocturne had been Rogue.

SkyCaptain, I think, had the hardest role. Theoretically, yes, the True Follower might've converted the Elder and the Commando and a good mix of villager powers in the following days, but the problem with balancing a role based off possibilities is that in some scenarios, they get screwed over.

Also a few people have asked me what would've happened to the last surviving SPECTRUM member, and since it's likely this role won't be used elsewhere, I thought I'd put it up. SPECTRUM players who don't want to get depressed, don't read on.

My original plan was for the Followers to be a three-man team with an every-other-day conversion power, and in hindsight that probably would've worked better. You live and learn.

Of course, several mechanics existed purely to cause controversy. Poor Houn and the un-narrated curing of the New Renegade!

Although Rend was in fact right about the incapability of a mere psychic to tame a transmuter, judged off the final narration...
