While at work, my mind did a fairly jarring redirection. I'll put it out there.
Kanye's a jerk. A dick. Cock-a-leekie soup. No question. But... consider how we reacted towards Michael Vick; people seem to be about ready to forgive him (not me, but some people). But Vick's crime was forcing dogs to fight to the death. Kanye, when you get right down to it, is guilty of little more than being a famewhore too stupid to realize what he's doing wrong. He took away a very nice, sweet young girl's big moment, but... at the end of the day? Famewhoring is the crime here, versus dogfighting. There's no question whose crime is worse.
Place Vick next to Kanye and do a little tale of the tape:
*Both are at roundabout the same level of fame.
*They're the same race.
*Both have urban backgrounds.
*Age, close enough.
*Both did mean things to adorable things.
So what does that leave? The seriousness of the crime, and whether they are deemed to have sufficiently repented. Even though Vick's SPECIFIC transgression was far worse than Kanye's, he is deemed by some to have sufficiently repented while Kanye has clearly not.
I mean, is there something I'm not seeing, or is the act of repentance simply so effective that a man who condemns animals to death and repents is forgiven while someone who just wants too much spotlight and does not repent is put in the proverbial stocks?
Aside from the fact that Vick served his time?
he served some jail time then went right back to making lucrative money for the NFL. It's not like he's flipping burgers like most ex-cons i know are because of a drug bust or the like, no, he probably drives a fucking bently to work. He may have served his time but he was not punished as most people who arn't famous atheletes are.
and half the people i know didn't even want to see him go to jail! The man is a fucking sociopath and they wanted an exception for him!
The only Kanye West song I've ever liked was the one that had the "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" sample in it, and that's only because I like Daft Punk.
So I guess you could say I enjoyed the Daft Punk song that Kanye co-starred in.
See, I hate that song because I love Daft Punk. It didn't do anything interesting with it at all.
Also, I dislike Kanye West's music and his persona, but neither is strong enough to warrant actual hatred.

Anyway, on my part it's a net gain - I never watch the VMAs or buy music from any of the three, but without all this malarky I wouldn't have video-surfed and seen a video of Lady Gaga's performance. Good stuff.
Right? Much respect for that one. I'm all about crazy stunts that are sure to turn the MTV crowd on their fucking heads. Bottom line: That offended somebody there, and therefore I loved it. And thanks for saying it. Glad I'm not the only one who really enjoyed it.
And yeah, Kanye's an idiot. No one anywhere should be surprised by this.
Also this meme should probably not live past this thread, just sayin'.
And man, I know dude is an easy target and all, and I agree it's a dick move, but this is getting blown way out of proportion. I wonder how badly people would be flipping out if he threatened to beat up a puppet.

It's partially his own fault for making that seem so likely.

Thank you, Jay Leno.
Damn.
I just got done watching the "incident" and the apology. Both are incredibly funny and sad. It's too bad I don't like either artist.

I think we're approaching the zenith of this meme.

It sounds rather honest when he says it too, I like it. OH NO THE PRESIDENT ISN'T ACTING VERY PRESIDENTIAL.
This is gonna turn into the G&T laughing man thread at this rate.
:^::^::^::^::^::^::^::^:
That's the man I voted for. :^:
And this is the idiot who claimed he was going to replace Michael Jackson as the king of pop.
This guy needs a reality check, ideally in the form of a backhand.
A long time ago. We've moved on to Kanye interrupting Kanye interrupting Kanye and Kanye interrupting god.
Colbert already delivered one

Except that he never actually said this.
