Flashforward. New show written by writer of Nick Fury and Blade Trinity
When actually this is a new show written by David S Goyer who co-wrote Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. It premiers Thursday, September 24th 7:00 central.
The basis of the show is that for 2min, everyone in the world blackouts and sees a glimpse of their future. But why listen to my bland discription of the show when you could:
It puts of a huge LOST vibe and if it can match Lost's first season, then ABC has a winner on it's hands. Personally I really enjoyed what I saw and I would easily recommend it to anyone who has every liked LOST.
I still don't understand how they're going to get an entire series out of "people see a glimpse of their future for 2 minutes". My guess is it devolves into philosophical jerking off over fate/destiny and whether it's changeable.
Ugh I was going to watch this without really knowing anything about it, but then that trailer had to go and have the Requiem for a Dream music in it. I guess i'll still give it a shot, but that's a pretty terrible thing to go and link yourself to in people's minds.

I'll watch the first episode and go from there, it's an interesting premise. Hopefully it won't go the way of the last sci-fi series I got invested in (Invasion).
Premise seems kind of neat and has some possibilities. I'm more hopeful that they get into investigating what actually caused it than "Can you change the future" stuff though.
If that woman's cleavedge made one more person pick the game up off the shelf, it was a net positive for microprose. And to be blunt, if taking her top off could have increased sales enough to get a sequel, I'd endorse it 100000% because I like playing great games.
I really don't care to watch a show with people trying to change their fate so they can avoid a fate they can/cannot/maybe? change. Boring shit with a side of it's been done to death on the side.
Maybe if everyone sees that the future earth is a toxic wasteland,ww3 happens, or some other extinction level event occurs that can be avoided if one is armed with fore warning it might be cool but thats unlikely.
Plus if someone who worked on the two worst Star Trek shows ever is involved, forgetaboutit!
I have to say I really enjoyed it. I think the thread of this show is going to be different than what I expected at first. Yeah, still looks like the old "no fate but what we make" kinda crap, but I'll be interested to see what they do with it.
It was interesting, but I felt like they jumped the gun trying to get me interested in all these people's personal lives right away. Lost was so successful because it built that up slowly. This seemed like it was trying to jump right in to things without letting me get to know the characters as characters first.
The pilot made it feel like Quantum Leap, if every character in Quantum Leap was trying to fix something that was about to happen, all at the same time. The timeline for it seems to be about 6 months, between present day and when everyone saw their future. I think the show would actually be good as either a single season, or two seasons, but I know they're going to try and stretch it into more than that, and it's just going to get boring and repetitive.
I didn't realize the show came on so early (7:00 Central), so I only caught the second half of the show. I'll have to watch the beginning online sometime. It definitely seemed like they were breezing through all the characters very quickly. I wasn't expecting them to reveal everybody's visions all in the first episode.
I read the book it's based on this summer but that didn't really help me get up to speed because the show is almost completely different other than the main premise of the flashforward. The Lloyd Simcoe character name is from the book (but most his other details are completely different) and MOSAIC is also in the book, but it seems to be a completely different organization as well.
It seems promising, but hopefully the pace will even out a bit in the coming episodes... what I saw last night reminded me of a mashup of Lost and 24. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing yet. The franticness of 24 with the mysteries of Lost should be good, we'll see which show it borrows from more.

Can you summarize the plot of the book in a spoiler? I too am in the, 'it depends on where they're going with it' camp.
I dunno, I found it interesting. I guess I should spoiler this, even though I don't think it's giving anything away:
Spoiler:
I was expecting them to draw out the realization that everyone had truthful, matching events. I was very surprised to see in the first episode that not only was everybody horribly forthcoming about what happened, but that everybody seems on board with the concept of what happened, and nobody bats an eye that this shit might be a bit freaky.
They did leave some interesting tidbits that made me think. Why did Harold see nothing, when in the season teaser we know his wife saw him? Who's the dude who didn't sleep? How much of the visions are going to be self-fulfilling? Obviously, we know where the yellow post-its came from on the board, since Harold (god, I didn't get his character's name) wrote them and posted them.
I guess the show will explain at some point about the "free will" versus "set future" concept. This show could either be very thought-provoking, or a pile of shit. The pilot really didn't answer that for me yet, so I'm interested to see where they go. I do agree, however, that 2 seasons seems like about the limit of the show. My fiancee actually thought it would make a good movie instead of a show, but we'll see if they can reign themselves in and stop the show after a set time, rather than jump the goddamn shark by trying to stretch it into a billion seasons.
It was amusing. Particularly because two of the main characters are English actors, one who I know mainly from playing a brainless man in a sitcom called coupling and the other from Shakespear in Love.
What is up with all the English on American TV at the moment?
House, the Wire, True Blood, Life, this... It's bizarre. Aussies too :o
Went ahead and watched this last night, and really loved it.
1. Great cast. You will spend much of the first episode trying to recognize actors from various movies. Oh, and they can act.
2. Great opening story. It was really intriguing, and opens up a ton of chicken/egg questions.
3. Great episode ending. Really had my wife and I on the edge of our seats.
4. Great promise for whats to come. By the end of the first episode you already know where several characters are going to end up, and now you get to find out how. Lostish in a sense, but here you have to question if Destiny can be changed.
Honestly, Fringe was the last show that had me this excited about the next episode. Highly recommended, I can only hope people tune in.

Somewhat pointless, as the book's setting was completely different from what we're getting with the series, and it is already obvious that the series will be going somewhere very different. The only thing the 2 have in common outside of a single character name is that everybody on Earth blacked out at the same time and had a flash forward.
Spoiler:
The main characters in the book were scientists at the Large Hadron Collider. The flash forward corresponded exactly with an experiment the 2 main characters performed using the Collider. So there was really never any question at all of what caused the flash, just how or why did it happen, could it be repeated, and was it possible to change the futures envisioned. The book was as much about how people reacted to the event as it was about the other issues though.
After watching the full episode this morning I think I will keep up with it. I liked it more than I didnt like it but as Syphon said, there were some facepalm moments. I liked the reveal at the end as well.
I gotta say that they did a great job getting you to care about some of the main characters. I liek the main FBI guy. I like his utility guy friend. The AA stuff (at 9ish AM?!?) was a great move to build interest in them. I want the main guy to stay clean and sober. I want him to kick ass and take names. I want his buddy to fuck up some terrorists and get his daughter (btw, they may know he is coming now 0_0 ).
And at the end, they got me to care about his wife. She is pretty charming. its gotta be tough to
Spoiler:
to KNOW you will not be with your husband in a year
. And the free will vs destiny thing could be a good theme.
Also, this is the worst review I have ever read. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/23/AR2009092304324.html
They claim that they sprinkle spoilers for the next episode throughout the show in a distracting way. WTF? I never saw that. I saw leads and information that would contribute to where things are going. Nothing like what they claim. Bizarre.
I really enjoyed this last night, eagerly anticipating next week's episode! Also, someone mentioned in the Fall TV thread that April 29th 2010 is probably a Thursday, therefore, it'll probably be the Season 1 finale. Well I went and peeked ahead on my Mac's calendar and it's definitely a Thursday. Intriguing!
And yes that reveal at the end with the security camera was tense! Holy shit! And same with the friendship bracelet, kinda hard to try and stop your future from happening when you can't seem to stop such a simple thing like that.

yeah, not a fan of that review. The concepts weren't hard to understand. The show starts out so much more grounded and sensible than LOST.
Thoughts from a person who wasn't going to watch it and was only half watching anyway while she played Peggle.
-Cell phones pretty much don't work after disasters happen (as we all know from 9/11). Everyone is trying to call everybody. I know "it's a show" but I found it annoying they were able to dial and connect to everyone right away.
-I couldn't place Olivia's actress until I realized it was Sonya Walger from "Mind of a Married Man." I like her, she is hawt.
-Seth Macfarlane? Really? That made me pick up the TiVo remote. I didn't think he'd be on TV let alone a different station than Fox!
-Wooo, Harold! I still have to watch the White Castle movies but wooo!
-Creepy guy on the video tape is creepy.
All in all would sorta watch/glance at while playing Scribblenauts again!
also has anyone noted that two of the stars of the 1996 Flash Forward were angel from x-men iii and wraith chick/keller from stargate atlantis
Or more importantly Kaylee from Firefly.

SAY WHAT.
*runs off to find the 1996 version*
I still sooooo want to bone that chick. Uh, I mean become friends.
And by friends, I mean bone.
And you know she aint had nothing betwix her nethers that didn't run on batteries for months now.
Back to the show, I've been looking forward to this for a while, especially after the announcement that Dominic Monaghan was joining the cast. From the previews looks like he'll be a part of the Mosaic group.
I liked the first episode but can't help but wonder where they are going to go with it. Especially if it gets a second season. With the flash forward date being so soon it seems like they will paint themselves into a corner.
Interesting note. The date that they flash forward to is a Thursday night and there will be a "special episode" of flash forward on that date according to the producers. Yet it will not be the finale...

That's pretty much what I'm expecting too.

Pass.
That's true.
Cause that music is heavy
Still, Lux Aeterna AND Gary Jules? Didn't we ban those two from trailers & movies 5 years ago?
