Apparently Rafa thinks that Torres hasn't even hit is peak yet. I guess 8 goals in 7 games is just his warmup?

Sunderland v Wolves is a very exciting game... I think Wolves could narrow the gap, and maybe even equalize again.

Ibrahimovic is kicking ass. Biggest thing since the fifties for us swedes. A bit south of Sweden, a bit north of Spain, St Pauli is back in style, losing against Armenia-whatever. And finally - in Sweden nothing is as it should be with Göteborg and AIK fighting for the win.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man

After today, I think Carlos Tevez is one of the classiest, most gentleman-like footballers around. Being apologetic towards your old club after scoring goals is excellent... and the West Ham fans cheering him was just as excellent.

Whats the good word on Fifa 10? Is it still better yet worse than PES like 09? Have they fixed the "lets put dribbling the ball across two sticks while Pro Evo does it with one" thing. And the "I need to pause to take a quick pass."

There is a demo for 360 and PS3. I personally think it's the most realistic football experience outside of Football Manager. I will be buying it day one.

You still use both sticks which I like a lot. I dont know what you mean by the second thing.

If I want to perform a short pass, the fact you have to load the pass up.

Just the little things bugged me about 09, it just didn't seem so intuitive as it could be.

You mean if you want to do a quick pass across the field you need to charge the bar?

I generally don't find that particularly irritating because, I have my charge bar sped up a little, you can charge the passes up before your player is receiving the ball and, I generally don't use long passes when a shorter one is available, which is pretty much all the time.

I suppose it can be annoying sometimes when you charge it and then the player hasn't turned to face the ball in an appropriate manner and can get barely any power on the pass, but that's pretty rare and generally only happens when you try to play really ridiculous passes at absurd angles.

    ?

I just tap A, boom pass. A long pass you 'charge' it. Makes sense to me. My guess is that pause you might be referring to is that when you pass/shoot the game takes into account your body position and forward movement and your player will take more to to pass/shoot if say you are facing away from your intended target.

To clear it up, I am not trying to defend fifa to my death or anything but I am generally curious as to the pause you are talking about.

    Nice job Bendtner
Bendtner, striker for Premier League's North London Arsenal, wrecked his Aston Martin DBS on the A1 in spectacular fashion, crashing through a fence and smashing into trees. The 21-year-old walked away uninjured but the $270K Aston was totaled.

There was a sluggishness to the controls of 09 that's kinda hard to define.
It wasn't major problem, but it was there.
It seems to be much improved in Fifa 10 demo though.

In case you've missed it - Ruban Kazan vs. Inter appears to be ending 1-1 with Balotelli getting dismissed in the 60th...

Some pretty decent matches lined up for today - Arsenal v. Olympiacos and Barcelona v. Dynamo Kiev are probably the big two. Yay for being at work and not at the pub.

So I'm a rural born-and-raised American who's had a passing interest (but little way to get into) soccer for a while, but now that I have the Fox Soccer Channel I'm buying into it wholesale.

I guess I'm asking what I need to know or where on the net to find out about the English Premier League and UEFA. All I really know is I'm inclined to root for Arsenal.

I'm obviously biased and would agree that you should become an Arsenal fan, however, you would be best served watching as many matches as you can. As Pants suggested, wikiing club histories is also a good idea.

Either way, I'm sure Arsenal will win out... we're awesome on so many levels. :)

    Thata boy!

Read Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby (Wrote About a Boy among other thigns). It's a autobiographical book written in the middlish 90s which details Honbys life growing up while being an extremely devoted Arsenal fan. It's hilarious and a good way to get a grasp on the modern team that is Arsenal.

Wikipedia as said is always a fine source.

As lame as it might sound, pick up Fifa 10/PES 10 when they come out. Its a good way to familiarize yourself with the players from the various leagues across the world.

1989. Last game of the season. Liverpool was in first place of the epl, above Arsenal. Arsenal traveled to play at Liverpool, a place where Liverpool simply does not lose.

Heh, rooting for one of the big 4.

Let me preface this by apologizing for using baseball as a reference point; it's all I could think of.

Well, I was looking at the current standings, and it looks like Arsenal's pretty good but not exactly dominant. I was kinda looking for EPL's analogue to MLB's St. Louis Cardinals, really; a team that wins more than they lose, good management and administration, generally well-respected, and don't "feel" like the New York Yankees.

One more thing to consider: Arsenal has Arshavin, who was on the Russia team for Euro 2008 (which was on ESPN and I watched a TON of) and they were great fun to watch. That gives me someone in particular I can keep an eye on.

Aside from the fact that Arsenal play some razzle dazzle football. Unlike Chelsea whom have had their "boring" periods.

United isn't so bad, and I respect Fergie.

Liverpool, well. They're entertaining one way or another.

You're looking at Everton there mate. Arsenal is more like..... I don't know, which Baseball team has a strong history of cheating and moaning and emphasizing style over substance?

Also, their stadium is normally half empty by half time in a bad day and the fans boo their own players.

Well, bean, you pretty much described every baseball team in the late 90's-early 2000's there.

And Woodroez, if you have no team allegiances, watch a few matches and decide for yourself which team you want to support. Every fan (especially in this thread) is biased as hell, and while they may not convince you to root for their team, they will convince you that the other teams are shit. If Arsenal plays the type of football you enjoy watching, watch them. If not, don't.

For me personally, playing PES/Winning Eleven helped me familiarize myself with teams and players much faster than I thought possible. Looking for good players for my own Master League team lead to me knowing about Mascherano, Torres, and Babel way before they went to Liverpool. Of course, there's the downside, where Alan Smith and Park Chu Young aren't dominating the EPL as PES predicted, but I wouldn't have known about them without PES anyway.

    This is great advice.

When I started watching football, I had no idea about who to support. I ended up really enjoying Liverpool, a team that I never expected to like.

Try watching games as a completely neutral supporter and you'll soon start understand what teams you like best.

I go for spurs because one of my best friends used to call me up every weekend to watch the Spurs games. So I'd rock up and watch the team that had Keane, Berbatov, Gareth "Never won a game" Bale, Horsemouth, Paul "L 2 catch" Robinson, "Deadly" Ledley King... those were the days. And eventually after watching enough I turned.

And the whole Cup final! What a night. With Berbatov taking the penalty because Keane had missed something like the last 10 penalties in the league. And new signing Woodgate scoring the winner.

And the night where West Ham had lost 4-0 for three games in a row, and Berbatov scored in the 5th minute. Looking pretty boring. Then we banged in 3 late on to make it 4 weeks in a row for the Hammers. :)

    Yeah fun times.

I root for Tottenham whenever they play against Manchester United. It seems like they always get ahead in the first half but then end up getting schooled by the end of the match.

Actually, that seems like the Tottenham way all together... what a fun club to support!
