I'm doing a test run of baked goods on my coworkers
just after 9am and it looks like the container was attacked by seagulls, so I think it was a rousing success

We tried making jam with splenda for the Mrs. and her diabeetus. End result was considerably sweeter, but it didn't set at all. More of a thick berry syrup.

my stepfather makes jam with splenda
it can be done but I think he has to use more pectin and it's still not quite the right consistency
but it's not syrup either
or you can use a blend of sugar and splenda 50/50 apparently and get better results while still reducing the sugar
Zip, you seem like an otherwise upstanding fellow so I'm going to refrain from slapping you like a bitch for that comment.
Lime is one of the best flavors ever.
Hey now, show me in my post where I say I don't like lime.
I love fresh lime flavor and I'm sure it would be tasty in a shortbread. However, I don't see lime complimenting the shortbread in my preferred shortbread consumption manner, which as noted above, is with tea or hot chocolate.
I thought I would mention that Usagi's lime shortbread cookies sound awesome. *coughs* What? No, I'm not hinting at anything. I would never.
And just as a side note, I am betting dark chocolate would also be good as a drizzle on those cookies. Citrus and dark chocolate, for me, is amazing together. It's a pretty popular pairing, at least.

what were you testing? the biscotti? the lime shortbread?
what the fuck?
Biscotti?
Lime shortbread?
Usagi, you're out of this thing.
Sorry, just not going to work.
Just send all of those to me and I will... dispose of them properly.
Yep.
Official contest rules, etc etc.
There are some chocolate-dipped orange/lemon peels I brought back from France around here somewhere
They are a few months old so I think not finishing them off would be a crime
They're pretty easy to make and quite delicious.
I've made them three times I think.
They rarely survive an entire day or two. My roommates descend upon them like ravenous crows.
I've been busy with a lot of real life things, but things are settling back down and I should have some time to make them this weekend, maybe ship them in time for thanksgiving if St. isn't too lazy to help me out. If not this weekend then for certain during thanksgiving break.
coconut, chocolate chips, graham cracker crust, some other tasty things, all mixed into some delicious bars(a word that sounds much more funny when said using our fake Minnesotan accents).
Maybe we'll make some cookies too, I noticed some containers of cookie mix in the fridge recently.
The Christmas wrap was torn when it arrived at my sister's house exposing the note that described the obsence nature of the contents, so I had to remove the note before her kids got home from school, but since the cookies had crumbled beyond recognition, I was able to share with them by hiding the note.

What, you mean dad dying got in the way of your baking? Outta the contest!
no but for realsies I found a second recipe for you to test with the church ladies recipe book.
That's right, blvd's baking a recipe from a book made by our church's dedicated grandmothers.
I'm a little disappointed right now.
Two of the cookies I was making turned out to be a horrible idea considering the mailing involved. I was making both brown sugar shortbread and five-spice shortbread. They both turned out too tender to be considered for mailing. I guess I am down to three items. Boo.

Too tender?
Get some tupperware and put them in that!

I decided not to make the lime shortbread until you get here, so the other thing and one of the other things
the things :P
and yesssss so looking forward to making the lime shortbread together
See, I love me some shortbread with tea and hot chocolate and I just don't see the lime doing anything for that.

try enjoying your shortbread in a different context
just remember it's not gay if your balls don't touch
we'll report back after we make it at Christmas, link for the curious
Same applies to the balls.
edit: Yea, you lost me at white chocolate.
No it isn't.
Like today I had snickers and jalapenos for breakfast.
What I'm saying is let's hang out cl
man if you're gonna be a big babby about some white chocolate drizzled on some shortbread then you don't deserve any delicious baked treats
white chocolate is like fish sauce
only the clinically insane would eat it by itself
but a little bit with the right foods can add a really nice touch
I don't disdain it, it just isn't for me.

Update: my mom ate them all. I should not be surprised
Some crispy rice things are still left, and so is the jam I got
They're pretty easy to make and quite delicious.
I've made them three times I think.
They rarely survive an entire day or two. My roommates descend upon them like ravenous crows.
Also jam. Floral jam. That stuff is very good
It's extremely easy!
And save the resulting simple syrup because it is delicious for other stuff.
