can we keep the "why isn't ____ higher" and "where the fuck is ____ it's easily the best album" shit to a minimum this year?

these lists are hardly meant to be objective and are actually a pretty good retrospective if you take them with a grain of salt and use them to look into what you haven't heard.

I'm not hitting on album placement. It listed a lot of albums I found to be really fantastic this year pretty highly. I was really pleased to see The xx as high as they were. While a couple albums could've been higher, I'm not going to complain about it.

I just don't at all think or feel that MWPP was deserving of the number one spot. Plain and simple.

My post wasn't a direct reply to yours, I was just attempting to curb that kind of shit before it starts, since it's what all year end lists lead to, and kills any legitimate discussion

but Merriweather has been the number 1 from more than just Pitchfork this year. Spin magazine listed it as #1 as well, and it's been in the top 5 in most publications.

The album just feels entirely forgettable to me. I listened to it five or six times over a period of two days and the only song I can remember is Summertime Clothes. I just didn't hear or feel anything standout about it.

What album I was pleased to see on their list was Cymbals Eat Guitars' Why There Are Mountains because that album is boss as fuck. Hands down one of my favorites of the year.

Micachu I couldn't get into when I first gave it a shot, but I plan on revisiting

the same for Woods and Antony

I can't get past the vocals on the Wild Beasts album.

the rest I just haven't listened to or given enough time to create an opinion on yet

I'm kind of surprised not to see Taken by Trees - East of Eden on the list anywhere

    I may get on that.

I'm not even sure what type of music it is.

    I love Wayne Coyne.
No matter who you are, you'll run into somebody who'll be like, "Jesus, you gotta see this video!" and there'll be some woman squirting eels out of her ass or something. In some ways I think it's funny. We live in good times; we can watch something like that and get on with our day. I mean, I don't want to have a woman squirting eels out of her butt while I'm there, but I'll watch it on video for 20 seconds.

I don't think I'm in pitchfork's target demographic. I had heard of 8 of the artists in the top 100 tracks. Is Lady Gaga in there ironically or something?

Also iTunes "genius" keeps putting Radiohead and Killers songs into this "indie" playlist.

edit: though it does keep throwing up white rabbits, so it's not all misguided

well, the year end lists are mostly very current. if you're not keeping up with indie released in the last year or so, it's not going to be very familiar. especially since the indie blogosphere culture means that anyone who isn't constantly putting out music is entirely forgotten and may as well have never existed.

there's a bunch of good tracks on that list though, it's worth going through it and seeing what you like
