Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
God of War III Special Edition Thread (You may or may not be dissapointed)
Now I am not making this as a thread to primarily discuss the game, but the special edition that has just been announced. You can discuss the game if you want, but I'm sure there is a much better much larger thread for that, that I could not find, or else I would have posted this in there.
The Ultimate Edition will feature the following:
Exclusive Collectibles
• High-End Sculpted Replica of Pandora’s Box
• Limited-Edition God of War Art Book featuring exclusive art, content and interviews
Exclusive Digital Content (Available via PlayStation Network voucher codes on day of launch)
• God of War Combat Arena containing an exclusive environment and seven challenges
• Premium Kratos Skin – Dominus
• God of War: Unearthing the Legend Franchise Documentary – a full-length movie documentary depicting the history of the God of War franchise
• God of War Trilogy Soundtrack – God of War, II, and III scores from the game (mp3 digital download).
• God of War: Blood and Metal EP – a heavy metal homage featuring original music inspired by God of War (mp3 digital download).
But it keeps getting better for the fans. Those that pre-order God of War III at select retailers will receive a voucher code for first access to download the God of War III E3 2009 Demo starting today, plus you will receive an exclusive downloadable skin from the following retailers: Amazon, GameCrazy and GameStop.
Price will be 100 bucks according to GameStop.
Looks fairly standard for a 70 dollar special edition, but with an admittedly cool looking plastic box that tacks on an extra 30 bucks. Overall I'm disappointed because I think including the revamped PS3 versions of DoW1 and 2 being included would have made this a slam dunk. What do you guys think?
Personally, if the stuff like the soundtracks were all physical things I probably wouldn't mind plunking down the extra 40 bucks. As it is now, I dunno, I don't think I will.
I don't even have a PS3 yet and I'm tempted. Artbook and 'Making Of' are of great interest to me.
That's just the thing though, while art books and making ofs are awesome and all, that really doesn't set this aside from any other assembly line SE. I mean a lot of games come with the art book/soundtrack for free if you pre-order and the making of is something you often see on the disk anyway. The box is a great start, a great foundation, but what's inside of it has to be fantastic too to warrant the extra 40 bucks. I'd be running to GS right now to pre-order if they included the blu-ray edition of GoW1 and 2, along with maybe a small statue of Kratos doing something cool or a figure.
I might get it. I mean... it's only $40 more dollars than say the game alone.
That's kind of a lot, no?
You know, I don't think I've ever consciously bought a special/ultimate/Night Vision Goggles edition of any game. I don't think GoW3 will change that. But I will be getting the hell out of the 'vanilla' game, though.
This game is all about the racism. I hate to think about all the backlash that will be involved but the truth must be told. The truth about a man who kills people by dropping them from his crane. Political correctness be damned. Damned to the max.
Too much digital content for the cost. Way too much digital content. I wish they'd stop giving art books and give cooler things, statuettes, actual soundtracks, bonus dvds or whatever.
What they should have done is made a decent cardboard slipcase, an artbook that'd fit in there, and a card with the deluxe download information for all that shit and then sell it for 80 bucks. The downloaded stuff doesn't really cost them much, but they add enough value that I think a ton more people would jump on a deal like that rather than a 100 dollar thing with a box.
The sound of eight hooves reaches his ears, comes from the heavenly light, two wolves howls fills his heart with fear, and he sees two ravens fly. Down from the sky a warlord rides, like fire his one eye glows, and just before the preacher dies he knows his god is false.
Anyway, if that comes over here I'll probably buy it. The God of War soundtracks have been amazing so far so I'll probably use them more than a Making Of DVD, which only ever watch once.
Oh and I'm downloading the God of War 3 demo now. Yay!

God Of War III PSN Demo Voucher Code – Check Your Inbox This Weekend!
Hi everyone
I’m Thach Quach, European Software Product Manager for God of War III.
I hope you guys are all excited about what you’ve seen or read about this highly-anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive. If not, you should, it’s going to be an epic, pulse-pounding and brutal adventure .
For those of you who haven’t had the chance to play the God of War III demo which was on the show floor at E3, Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show and other SCEE events throughout 2009… well… some GREAT news for you: we will be emailing out some demo voucher codes to a selected number of PAL PSN users who registered to receive the SCEE promotional newsletter. If you haven’t opted-in to receive it, it’s unfortunately too late to be in with a chance to be picked for this promotion, but it’s worth you registering today to be considered for future SCEE offers (simply go to the PlayStation Network icon on the XMB, select Account Management => Account Information => => Notification Preferences, and tick the relevant boxes).
Make sure you check your email inbox over the weekend and hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones to receive a voucher code allowing you to download this demo instantly from PlayStation Store! Remember, it’s a random selection and only a limited amount of vouchers are being sent out so good luck
And if you still haven’t heard about Kratos or seen anything about God of War III, here is a trailer we released earlier this year:
I also wanted to update you on the ‘God of War III Ultimate Edition’ which was announced for the North American market by SCEA. No need to panic guys, we are not forgetting you! We will also announce the Special/Collector’s Edition and extensive pre-order plans in place for the PAL region. So watch this space, you won’t be disappointed for sure
That’s it for now… For those of you who haven’t seen them, below is a selection of God of War III screenshots we released not so long ago.
Any comments or questions let me know and remember to check your inbox this weekend. Enjoy the demo if you are one of the lucky ones to receive it!
The download's going ssssssoooooo ssssssslllllllllooooooowwwwww though. It seems to download a few megs, stop for a few minutes and then download another few megs. Sony really needs new servers.
You are solidifying my hate for every non-American nation.
Sorry, what? I can't hear you over the sound of Kratos ripping Helios' head off.
It finished downloading this morning (yeah, it took that f'n long) and I played through it. Framerate gets a little janky at times but that'll be fixed by March. Otherwise, it looks amazing and plays pretty similarly (with refinements to elements Chains of Olympus brought in).
Who wants to let me borrow their PSN to download the demo! Isnt there some account... share or something.. hmm we should get a list going like neoGAF does.
So how angry is Kratos in it? Is he angrier? Perhaps the angriest? Does he have a move that ends the world?

So I just downloaded the GoW3 demo with my preorder code. (Gamestops now have them for the preorders. The code is active now, and there is also a code for a costume unlock (The prototype Kratos design).
GOD DAMN.
spoiler about one thing in the demo.
Spoiler:
You rip off Helios' Head. And use it as a god damn FLASHLIGHT.
The one thing that doesn't make sense is why not put the HD upgrade games in there? It just makes sense and you could bust up the price a bit if they want more money.

Probably because they are selling them seperately now, because they want to get God of War in everyones minds again now before the Holiday so everyone will be hyped up for it when 3 comes out. and they would rather do that and have it out there for EVERYONE to buy, than to make it for a limited edition thing only.
And they wouldnt do BOTH, since no one who bought the collection seperately would pay to get it again in the Ultimate Edition.

I am a serious collector and will probably get it just for the box, I'm seriously disappointed with what's inside though.

Like iTunes, can charge as much but much less cost involved. That box must be smaler than it looks or very sparse inside.
Seriously, if Atlus can give us an OST and an Artbook at no extra cost (Persona 2), then I dont see why the hell every other company can.
Yep that's exactly what I was saying.

I like the box and probably the documentary.
That's not enough for $30 extra.
