I always wondered the same thing, so at some point I looked it up. I guess a tanuki (tanooki is bastardized) is a racoon-fox animal and is mythologically related to Jizō, a well-known Japanese diety. When they localized SMB3, I guess NOA didn't feel like changing it to make sense to Americans.

Oh hell yeah they do. Not as often in D&D but pretty often in CF. Fun times.

I was always too scared to do a CF phalla, most of the players there were insanely hardcore and I didn't know anyone. I feared getting chosen for the Mafia and royally screwing it up and OH GOD OH GOD THE WALLS ARE CLOSING IN NO ONE LIKES ME

After trying one here I was like MOOAR and the guys there are cool and not all hardcore. It's a pretty wide spectrum of -core..ness

So, lot of cores. Sounds like a lot of holes. That's something I could get into.
