So I did my course work for my 3D class in Maya 2010(trail) and my university only has Maya 2009 running on their machines. Apparently Maya 2009 doesn’t get along with Maya 2010 and I can't open any of my course work on their machines, I tried saving in both .ma and .mb but neither seem to work and I’m out of ideas.
Go to "File" then "Open Scene." There should be a little black and white box next to "Open." Click it!
This will open the open options window. In this window, there is a box that says "Ignore Version." CHECK THIS BOX. CHECK IGNORE VERSION.
Now click open and open your file.
Edit:

Edit edit: If that doesn't work export the file as an FBX. If you don't see the 'fbx' option in the export window go to the plugin manager and load it. Alternatively, try exporting as an OBJ.
