BahamutZEROSeriously, why'd you summon me?I was on the can!Registered Userregular
I did the Halo 2 midnight launch. The guys who were supposed to open the store tripped the alarm and the police and fire department came.
It was 1 something by the time they started selling the games and it almost seemed soup kitchenish.
I then went to 7-11 and got my Halo slurpee cup while I put Halo 2 into my Halo xbox with the Halo 2 Master Chief action figure sitting next to it with my Halo 2 soundtrack playing in the background. I don't even like Halo.
The closest thing to a midnight launch I've ever been to was getting in line to get a Wii early in the morning before the store opened.
I did that. It was actually meant to be a surprise present for me from my wife, but some people were askng me where to find a Wii and everything, and what times the stores open and everything, and those people already had Wiis or did not play vidja games, so it was kind of obvious. I guess those people thought it wasn't meant as a surprise.
The one "young adult" rock station around here is constantly blathering about launch parties. Ugh. Gamers.
The closest thing to a midnight launch I've ever been to was getting my WoW:TBC cd key two weeks before release and going to outlands at 11:59, getting hundreds of angry messages from west coasters.
I sat in line for something like 10 hours for tickets to Star Wars Episode I. I would probably not do that again. It also turned out to be kind of pointless because the megaplex was showing it about every 10 minutes or so in different theaters the first week so there was no shortage of tickets to be had.
I also went to a Toys R Us the first day the PS2 was available and was not aware at that point that preordering was a thing. They only had about 10 systems that weren't preorders so they were doing trivia questions to choose who could buy them. It was really poorly organized, they were just reading the questions to this group of about 50-60 people and whoever raised their hand (and got noticed) first got to answer the question. I decided to just go for it and was able to jump around and wave my hand enough to get to answer a question and buy a system. I think the question involved knowing that Mel Gibson was the voice of Captain John Smith in Disney's Pocahontas.

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog at the line for the Episode II premiere is one of the best things that has ever aired on a Conan O'Brien related show.
Yeah. I wasn't in costume or anything. I think I just brought a book and sat there. The only thing that sucked is that I had gone alone to get tickets for myself and my friends so I had to rely on my "neighbors" in line to hold my place when I needed to get a drink or go to the bathroom.

I was going to say this.
The resemblance is uncanny.
All he needs is a cigarette.
gogo comic edit.
*edit*
jesus, the first panel even has the silhouettes.... total Doonesbury homage!
Good call on the Doonesbury resemblance!
Please take my advice.

Maybe for The Burning Crusade?
Camping out for the Wii was fun, though I could've arrived ~6 hours later and still gotten one of the 20 seats.
The store only had 2 of them with their shipment. Three people showed up for one.
Luckily I had already bought mine in full a few days earlier.
This neo-feudalism would be more tolerable if our betters had fancy titles.

The theater in town is pretty good with offering midnight showings of premiere movies.

Yeah they're really beating the shit out of a dead horse here with these .5 line comics per year.

It was fun, mostly because the movie and the theatre we went to were rad.
