Hey guys, I was installing a ati 4850 1gb into my pc when i put it in I realised that the cord that is connected to the fan is just hanging about not plugged into anything. Now this is two wires, a red one and a black one, with a wierd connector on the end which is flat with 2 holes in it. These holes have these little metal things in them too. I have no idea where this goes.

Have I broken it? Do you tihnk it can be returned? I am screwed fuck.

Ive read the manual, it doesnt mention anything about this fan power cord anywhere.

So the fan doesn't work at all atm since that cord isn't plugged in anywhere. I can't find anywhere to put it either.

You don't have an open slot on your motherboard to plug it in?

I'd assume that's where it goes if there aren't any pins available on the card itself.

Even if it's not supposed to go on the motherboard you'd probably be okay just plugging it in there.

Edit: You might be able to plug it directly into the PSU with a molex adapter (if such an adapter exists).

*deleted because i don't trust myself*

Also, keep your fingers off the part of the card that goes in to the slot on the motherboard.

Or, try moes. Totally better place to ask for advice. Right now I don't feel like I know what I am doing

there isnt any 2 prong sockets anywhere at all. Everything Ive read said that it should be connected to the graphics card.

I read somewhere that the easiest way to get a 2 prong power is the cut the connector off, strip back the wires, and then connect to a molex connecter which then connects directly to the power supply. I've not messed with wires much but that will probably be my best bet.

The fan plugs into the video card itself. Look carefully for the spot it came disconnected from.

Looking at the reference design, there should be near the lower-right corner of the fan two prongs sticking out. Just to the left of the leftmost black chip at the bottom of your picture. IF they're not there, then they broke off (my guess) and you need to RMA the card.

Thought I would post the resolution up here.

Firstly, I figured out that the plug for that fan cord was still attached to the cord. The whole thing had been taken off of the graphics card. Thats why I couldnt figure out what to do. I then decided to go buy a after-market fan for this as I'd already screwed it up.

Went and got a Zalman VF900 tok off the old fan, spent 20 minutes taking away all the whole thermal paste with rubbing alocohol and qtips. Applied my little vga ram sinks that are cute little hedghogs and added more thermal paste. New fan is all attached now but wired directly into the motherboard. Even has a little controller to configure fan speed. And it is the quiestest fan I have ever had.
