A bunch of us have okCupid.com profiles and maybe you should too! It's free and simple and all you have to do is figure out how to make strangers like you based off a tiny bit of trivial information about yourself and pick the pictures that make you look cute as a button instead of all pimply and gross.
You get to put in some "essays" about yourself, as many pictures as you want, and answer a whole bunch of multiple choice questions, and then every day you'll get sent three matched profiles of ladies or dudes you might be interested in to your "quiver." You can also just list people who are near you and see if there are any attractive, interesting ones.
Don't bother with ice-breakers. That shit is dumb as all get-out. You send some faceless internet person a message based off the fact that you both listed "chocolate" somewhere in your profile and then they respond to you so you can find out they're hideous or a Twilight fan or some such nonsense.
So let's do something about our problems instead of wallowing in self-pity and loneliness, and help each other out selling ourselves to strangers. Post your profiles! Tell people to use different pictures! Et cetera!

turns out they're way too common for me to make any sense of it

but there are just too few people using it in my town so I've moved to an Australian Specific dating site called RSVP
on the down side, you have to pay to initially make contact with a person (10 bucks)
but on the upside there are hundreds and hundreds of people who match my search criteria who still log on every week
