A lot of you people are probably young and college bound. This is a thread to talk about it!

my own college admissions process was a catastrophic failure last year, so I'm starting early this year to make sure everything goes well
The Art Institute of Boston
Massachusetts College of Art and Design
San Francisco Art Institute
Ontario College of Art & Design
California College of the Arts
Savannah College of Art and Design
New York Academy of Art
School of the Art Institute of Chicago
Otis College of Art and Design
School of Visual Arts
Emily Carr University of Art and Design
Minneapolis College of Art and Design
Pacific Northwest College of Art

after that's all done, I'll need to send out transcripts, write some essays, look at financial aid, and work on making my portfolio less terrible

so, where do you want to study/where are you applying/how are you preparing (sat/act, writing essays, getting rec letters, etc)?

Disclaimer: I work at an art school that's not one of the ones below but in the same area.

San Francisco Art Institute. I've heard good things, but not much. They seem small?

California College of the Arts. A few people I work with (and my uncle) went there when it was CCAC. They're good people and pretty kick ass artists. When it was CCAC they really focused a lot on doing big stuff, installations and such, but that was a while ago. (3+ years ago?)

Edis: I still don't have a degree, I should probably do that someday, yay local community college(s).

Nothing to see here. move along...

I am contemplating taking a class or two over break for my GPA

The only problem is, they're even more crammed then summer classes, so you have to go six days a week for like 2 hours a day

People drink more in recessions they just buy cheaper booze. So the barback's are just restocking light beer a lot.

It really does, butters, by merit of the networking you acquire and in terms of finding jobs that require practical application of art skills

If a company wants an illustrator they are more likely to hire one with a B.F.A. then one without

The fact that you are able to go four years and complete a reasonably challenging courseload helps a resume prove to a potential employer that you're at least more consistent than some really amazing artist who goes into fugues every two weeks.

    I really couldn't tell you!

but I'd assume it would be far easier to find industry contacts and job opportunities with an accredited university helping

and I'm primarily going to school to learn, so

Maybe they were in poor programs but I've known my share of folks with BFAs that didn't work for shit to get them. I wonder if you aren't better off investing in marketing your talent for 4 years on your own instead.
