Kind of old news.
The community did have a big, panicky shit storm about that. But since that happened a major patch has been completed and installed. GMs are still active in the in-game help channel. The server still receives regular maintenance. Don't think the game is going to die just yet.

Well after the bad news you posted- last week they announced a new distribution company meaning more adverts and boxed copies are coming as well.
Things are looking pretty ok for the game thus far.
Apparently they fired only the people who weren't working on FE. So I don't think they're going to close up shop tomorrow, or anything.
For some reason this game makes me feel like I'm playing EQ back in 1999. Rough around the edges, graphics that aren't up to date for the time, small community, yet somehow dangerously compelling when I should be doing classwork.

Computer draws 3 more cards, and gets 20.
I think it was some kind of sign to take my money and leave.
Just like a real casino!

The house always has an advantage.
I am constantly crafting doodads. I am shooting people in the face with my twin revolvers, and somehow crafting. Levels come so fast as you are killing and crafting at once.
in this game its- ABC always be crafting.
Also, the additions they made to this game are absolutely fantastic. Cargo versions and combat versions of mounts? Yes, please. I'm currently in the process of training up a 28-slot cargo horse off of which I can shoot my shotgun at coyotes.
[edit] Also, for anyone reading this on the fence, the Blood Sports free expansion has added more then I could possibly explain in one post. This game has improved far beyond it's launch condition, as anyone would expect, bein' as they've been patching constantly for 6 months. They revamped skins, animations, lag, LOD, scaling, added arenas, conflict towns, guild wars (well, clan wars), and a new area. It is absolutely fantastic.
I was invited to join that guild by a member of one of the larger ones it feeds into while I tried a conflict town.
Holy shit. Between faction territory swapping with legitimate benefits and personal clan wars/open pvp zones, this has everything i want with PvP.
Today, I walked up behind some guy out scavving and put two shotgun slugs in the back of his head, thus earning me my first kill - which is rad, because once I get a high enough "death toll" - also known as "honor in WoW" - I can pick up decent equipment.
Nope. And you as you level up in death toll (it takes 1000 to get to tier one, upon which you are tier two, and can still spend it - I think - or there may be something else to the tiers) you get nice PvP items, and in Conflict Towns can acquire special, repeatable missions that help you grind up factions while vying for control of the city.
Also, in conflict towns, the missions you do for your two allied factions and your own give you a special type of scavenging skill. The higher it gets, the better the loot you receive when looting nodes - which are goddamn everywhere - of ____ faction, so long as you are a member of that faction. For instance, I have 4600 traveller gathering skill. When we control the town (and we often do, being a conniving-ass faction) - you control the town by completing the aforementioned missions and killing opposing players or friends or whatever. Each time you do something like that your faction gets a percentage of "control" ceded to them. Every 70 minutes the town resets, so there are constant battles going on when the server is active.
Then, once you control the town, only your faction can loot the majority of the nodes there, and you unlock a safehouse in the center of town with six extra missions that can help you retain control of the town. There are also two merchants.
It's intense as fuck. I die a lot and kill people rarely, but thats the rub. I wish I could respec again.
Heres hoping they do a mechanic change again? (And changing the abilities to do damage based on your weapon rather than a flat amount was the best thing ever)
Also:
I'm 1 bubble from 23.
A headshot with a sniper rifle or a couple headshots with a battle rifle is enough to drop most mobs if you're using guns appropriate for your skill level. And rifle ammo is much easier to make in S1 than shotgun ammo, which requires scrap plastic. Not impossible to find in S1, but you have to actually go out and scav for it and there aren't a lot of nodes that drop it (refuse nodes level 30+ are the best nodes to check).

What's your name in-game? I can send you a skill 75 or 90 shotgun, whichever you prefer.
A couple of questions though;
1. Can you get a bigger backpack? I've been gathering alot of stuff and I seem to run out of space quite fast.
2. Is there just one server worldwide? So I can run into you guys ingame, even if I live in Europe?
I can see myself playing for quite some length at a time, and I'm currently fearing the lack of sleep it will bring
Essentially, think of this game as S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Fallout 3, and Star Wars Galaxies' lovechild (in terms of mechanics, at least. I think the story is really cool.)
In answer to your questions:
1. No. Your backpack is limited to a certain number of slots; the first thing you should do is go into the filters on your bag and set it so it has tabs for every different type of item, and make sure you stack things efficiently, loot selectively, and always be within reach of a mount. My mount has 22 slots and - since I have a low strength and therefore utilize the set slots less efficiently - I use it as a travelling packtohorsetobankfromground transmitter of weight. So, up your strength, or get a mount. (I would be glad to make and send you a free horse if you post your name)
2. Yeah. I've met dudes from Denmark, France, Spain, America, and Canada in the past four days, and every single player is on that shard. It's like EVE in that respect.
These cargo vehicles are basically mobile vaults. Ex: the cargo dune buggy has 52 slots and something like 100+ weight capacity. You can place these mounts/vehicles in the garage and then have them towed from place to place without needing to bring them each into the world and navigate them to your destination manually. They retain the items in their storage even when in the garage.
So while you can't upgrade your inventory or vault space directly, you can indirectly.

Also, once you hit a certain faction score with the bankers you gain access to VIP vaults, which are larger then sector vaults or barter vaults. And if you're in a clan you can trust all three of those have proportionate clan vaults.
It's almost impossible to leave S1 without VIP vault use, so storage is rarely a problem. Hell, I usually have so much stuff it's hard to find the right specific mats sometimes, but that's only occassionally.
My name is Arrath (real creative!) in game, skill 75 shotgun would be great as I'm still only rifle 60 at this point. Gives me a goal to work towards!
I just learned horses three today and can make skill 75 mounts - the rub is that I'm dead broke right now, so I need to make a little money first. Then I'll try to craft up three of the highest tier cargo horses I can.
And I'll send both of you guys some sort of nice rifle. It'll take me a bit to get the mats together, though, I've since salvaged my extras.
[edit] At AU 77, rifles 112 buffed, 100 unbuffed, 89 dodge and 89 athletics. I love the skill 75 armor, though the faction armor for the travellers ended up being ugly.
I'm glad to assist with cash and mats you might need btw.
Anybody have any ideas?
Its on steam isn't it? If you got it on steam, try verifying the cache.

Those are skill 54 GA-48 hunting revolvers, but I had to put like 50 AP into pistols over time. Probably less, actually, given that dex/perception are my two highest stats (i keep them all capped) and my rifles is 101 unbuffed.
And you sure can worry 'bout rifles. I'll send you a rifle zip-gun, then a regular rifle (first you can get) or shotgun, and if I can, a sniper rifle.
Nope. I was a Rifleman from day one. I was jealous of everyone I saw with a pistol and downright pissed melee existed. They have made some incredible changes to the rifle mechanics. First, they increased the effective range and damage according to range/area hit according to armor/npcs dodge save vs your perception save, and essentially balanced them out. They are not as high-DPS as pistols or as RAPE as melee, but they're effective because they play an essential support role in both PvP and PvE.
I go to conflict towns, go prone on a hill where I'm impossible to see and don't show up on the map, go prone (being prone or crouched decreases the likelihood you'll show up), and pick them off with shots from my battle rifle. They also added a snare + DOT that you get regardless of faction, and added about a dozen new rifles. They're way better now, but still the lowest dps with the greatest range - support. I play a direct healer / first aid buffer using mutations and FA, but still do an assload of damage because of my high rifle skill and never get hit because of capped dodge. I'm just really squishy so if they don't miss I die.
Oh, and, also, positioning/momentum affects different weapons differently. I am basing this entirely on soloing results so I can't be positive, but I would swear to it. Shotguns do best if you have some momentum, so running at someone while shooting is more effective; assault rifles are best crouched, and sniper rifles are best prone. Battle rifles and some SMGs fall in-between. Headshots, of course, ammo calibre, area of hit, and armor also play big roles, as well as distance - smaller guns are better at shorter range, unless they're really big.
thinking I'll go rifle for the range. though how much of a problem will i have with people just running up to my face and tearing me to pieces with their dual magnums?
