[Xbox 360 Recommend On] Licensed games for small children

solsovlysolsovly Registered User regular
edited January 2010 in Games and Technology
I need recommendations for a good 360 licensed game for children. (That means no Riddick). The licensed game is a requirement. They care more about the characters they will be playing than the actual game. This game will be for 4-7 year olds.

Need the following:
Ratings: Everyone, T for some super hero/transformers games
Difficulty: Low (no frusterating games)
Genre: No puzzle, no rpgs, no live arcade (disc based so their parents can take them away)

They already have ALL of the Lego games, more plastic instruments than they want in the house and the normal pack in games. (Pure, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Kung Fu Panda). They found Super Mario Galaxy frustrating (they don't have a Wii).

OLD MAN RANT ON HOW OLD LICENSED GAMES ARE BETTER
Remember when licensed games were awesome? The games were great on their own, but adding a character you loved made the game that much better. This is not a thread to talk about how awesome Capcom made the Disney afternoon or how Sega used to make good games like the Lion King or Aladdin or how Virgin actually turned SPOT, a damn soft drink mascot into an awesome game or TMNT, Simpsons, X-Men, Avengers had awesome arcade games, I mean c'mon even licensed pinball rocked!... aaaaaaaannnnnd this is why this isn't a thread to talk about old games.

Arkham Asylum is amazing and has a T rating.

have the kids watched the Batman animated series?

If they have or they just love batman then You can't get any better than Arkham Asylum.

I've heard that Kung Fu Panda is actually a pretty decent beat 'em up for kids.

EDIT: Sorry, missed that you had Kung Fu Panda already.

Arkham is way too violent and hard for 4-7 year olds. (but great for me!)

I know the list of E games... they already have Kung Fu Panda. I just want to know if anyone had kids with these games. The Pixar games look like they would fit the bill but I haven't heard much about them. Review sites are pretty terrible for reviewing from a 4-7 year old's perspective.

edit: oops, was supposed to be an edit to the above post

Well, I can only go on what my customers tell me, but apparently most of the family-oriented licensed games are pretty safe bets.

From what I've heard the Pixar games are generally pretty piss poor.

EDIT: I wonder if they'd like the Wallace and Gromit games. They're adventure games, but from what I've heard the puzzles are generally easy.

    Peggle?
    Uno?
    Pac Man Championship Edition?
Braid? Okay that'll go over their heads.

genesis collection is pretty good, the games on it are, as you can imagine, simple.

Viva Pinata wasn't up their alley. Genesis collections actually not bad but I'm specifically looking for licensed games.

Well, I'm kind of in the same boat here. I need two player games I can play with my li'l 4 yr old cuz. At the moment we get our race on in burnout revenge seeing as how its the only split screen racer easy enough for him..... Well, relatively. He can move, that's something right?

But anyway, he's really into Ben10 so that's what I'm looking for right now. There's also the suerman game? I mean, flying around really isn't that hard, you could just let them do that and feel awesome for a while.

You could always delete the Live Arcade games.

This was my first thought too, until I finished reading the OP.

KFP is a gem of a game.

    I need recommendations for

    "good" games for children
    Xbox 360
    licensed game
    4-7 year olds
    E or T rated
    Easy difficulty
    No puzzle, rpg
    No XBLA
    No "Lego" games
    Already have Kung Fu Panda
    No Music peripheral games

That's seriously tough criteria, but here's my shot at it. Not all of these are like games of the year quality, but they are typically considered pretty good family/kids games:

    Hasbro Family Game Night
    G-Force
Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs
    Up
    Monsters vs. Aliens
    Madagascar Kartz
    Madagascar Escape 2 Africa
    Bakugan Battle Brawlers
    Spider-Man Friend or Foe
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

    Unlicensed games to consider:

    Banjo Kazooie N&B
    Mini Ninjas
    Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection

review sites are hard to use for kid friendly games simply because they don't think like the demographic the game is aimed at - none of them are 7 years old (though they usually write like one).

I'm 26, and even I would find a game frustrating if I didn't have the system to play it.

    Bolt is pretty decent

My 3 yr old is playing this now and having a blast. I still have to help him with some of the puzzles but day by day he is getting better with the controls.
