I'm just glad they decided to show up againts the Rays. Hopefully the Yanks win both games today (suspended and scheduled one) and the Rays keep losing.
oh hay baseball thread. I went to my first baseball game a couple of weeks ago and now I am hooked.
I live in Tampa so I guess that makes me a Rays fan. Thanks to 8 dollar tickets and a 20 minute drive to the stadium.
I think even the "good games" the tickets are only 17 bucks for the cheap seats which really aren't all that bad. It's pretty much better than going to the movie theater.

those are basically metrodome type deals
except the metrodome actually filled up for big games...

yes, the Rays games can't fill up, even when the Red Socks are there and half the crowd are Boston fans and some of the upper seats are covered up to I guess lower the capacity for some reason.
A big part of this though, I suspect, is that it's impossible to get to the stadium on time from certain parts of Tampa during weekdays getting out of work.
They built the stadium in a pretty destitute area of town. It's not next to anything really. If Tampa is San Francisco, then Tropicana Field is like Alcatraz, in terms of location, accessibility and decorum.

Always good to see more fans of the game.
Might I direct you to this site to help familiarize yourself with baseball.
If you're just getting into baseball, Fangraphs is not the way to go.
Honestly I'd start just by watching the game, listening to what the analysts are talking about, and reading this Rays blog, since SBNation sites are generally pretty good. It looks like they use some of the more advanced metrics, like Fangraphs, but you'd actually have other Rays fans to talk to.
It's good to support your local team, even if it is the Rays.
what is up with Mauer and hitting into DPs recently
kirby puckett grounded out into a bunch of double plays during the '91 world series season

A grand salami for Robbie! Nice to see the Yankees can still perform offensively, even if it is the Indians (but its their best young pitcher so it still kinda counts).
Unbelievable that happened on the one night that nobody in town was watching the Phillies; thankfully the intermission let me see the last two innings of what had to be an amazing performance.

And Kendry Morales broke his leg celebrating his walk off grand slam.
They had a crazy rally today though. 4 runs in the 9th on one hit (and some walks and I think an error).
Maddon got ejected (again), after getting into it with Joe West.
The last 4 Rays games I have watched, some ridiculous shit is getting called as strikes. Stuff a solid 6 inches or more off the plate, AND high. Mostly sliders getting called that way but today there were a couple of inside fastballs that got called strikes which led to the ejection.
The 7 runs came out of nowhere. The Rays just sit around until the 7th inning when someone decides to hit a ball finally.

Rays won? Fuck I was getting pretty happy that the Yanks were going to gain on them. At least I got to see the new stadium and enjoy a rare Javy Vasquez W.

will it attack Brendan Harris again?
perhaps it's a hit squirrel hired by Punto so he can have 3rd base all to his own forever!
probably doesn't help that the stadium is the shittiest in baseball

Oh yeah, it was a perfect game.
Rarely does someone considered one of, if not the best, pitcher in baseball go out and do it.
Of course, they're so rare anyway...
More than 1/4th of the perfect games in major league history have been thrown in the last 12 years.
So... 6 of them?
to keep their season average of runs per game, they'll have to get shutout in the next 12 straight.
