I've been thinking about RS for a while now, since all I have for my 360 is gears.
firstly, the game looks pretty sweet to me, and although I'm not too fond of FPSs, this looks pretty different from your average FPS. I'm not asking for an online assesment, because I immensly prefer single player and local multiplayer to online play. I'd just like to know how the game is on singleplayer. So PA, what's your vote? Yay or Neigh?
I only 'liked' Gears, but I absolutely love Rainbow Six. They're two completely different experiences, but I much prefer Rainbow Six for my shooter-of-choice on 360.
The singleplayer was so awesome for me while it was going on, but the ending was ridiculously disappointing. Local multiplayer is kind of a pass on this one too. Get it for the online multiplayer if anything.
There are some acts so ruthless, some deeds so unpalatable, that only the Vlka Fenryka are capable of undertaking them. It's what we were bred for. It's the way we were designed. Without qualm or sentiment, without hesitation or whimsy. We take pride in being the only Astartes who will never, under any circumstances, refuse to strike on the Allfather's behalf, no matter what the target, no matter what the cause.
Yay. I'm almost always in favor of FPS with co-op play.

I think I'm going to pick this up. Best Buy has it on sale for $40 and I have a 10% off coupon from them as well. Now I won't feel left out when the PA'ers are playing on live, heh.

Why call it co-op "story"? It's more like co-op shoot some guys for reasons that your friend will have to explain to you because they only give you the story when playing singleplayer.
Although, I don't need much of an excuse to shoot tangos.
Also, my friend mentioned in passing "realistic" difficulty? Is that more liek the older R6 games, one hit your dead? This get shot a lot, but hey sit back for a few seconds in all these shooting games lately is getting on my nerves.
The PC version was badly ported, but the 360 is easily the most fun R6 I've played (previous ones were just a huge hassle, no fun). I kind of think of it as SWAT 4 meets Gears of War, in the most awesome ways possible.

Unless of course you loathe those mechanics.
Well, for people like that there's always Realistic difficultly. If you try playing two played co-op, you'll quickly see why the normal difficultly is a blessing. There's no checkpoints outside of singleplayer. You die, you restart the entire level from scratch. The second Vegas mission will show you why that really sucks ass.

Not as good as Gears, both single and multiplayer, but still fuckawesome.
Heck, I'd say the SP of Vegas is better, but the online is quite a letdown (no co-op is startling, and no, the co-op we have in the game is not true co-op)
easily one of the best fps games ive ever played. if not the best. the single player campaign is challenging, well paced, and entertaining. the online multiplayer is fun as hell because youve got incentive to level up your soldier. and split screen co-op will keep you and your friends busy for a long, long time.

Calypso casino?
And the realistic setting is the one I want
I think it might be Calypso. It's the first insanely long one.
[spoiler:778064c241]You start off outside a room filled with slot machines, and you've got two possible ways to enter. You have to go through vault that's been blown open, check some files, keep going to some massive lobby with five+ floor and tons of enemies firing on you, and then watch as you and your friend fuck up the hostage rescue because you didn't have any AI team mates to help out. And then you start back at that first room.[/spoiler:778064c241]
I played R6:Vegas and didn't actually have that much fun. I like GRAW and Gears a lot more, but I have always preferred Ghost Recon games above Rainbow Six games. It seems like a good game, but I couldn't really get into it. If you prefer Ghost Recon, then R6V may disappoint, but if you prefer R6 you should love it.
I'm less bitter about Vegas now that I've tried the demo and at least know it's not a terrible game and not another in the long line of crap that was released on the Xbox.
But it still feels like a slap in the face to those that made the franchise successful in any capacity. Now that Ubisoft has seen so much success with their consolized version of Rainbow Six, it's a sad that we'll probably never see another real R6 game.
However, you probably don't care, so I'd say go for it.
Here's my post on the official Rainbow Six Vegas X360 forums requesting support for mouse and keyboard. I make the argument that the mouse is far more familiar to the mainstream consumer than the gamepad and joystick is, therefore adding mouse support will likely increase sales and profits of FPS console games. I use the examples of the highly popular Nintendo Wii and DS systems to illustrate my point, describing their mouse-like "point and click" features.
If you agree that FPS games on the 360 need mouse and keyboard support, please go the forum and state your support.
Mouse and keyboard support for the XBOX360 is too niche a market. There already is a computer version for those who prefer the mouse and keyboard, and the fact that future games will allow PC and console players to play together makes that support even more unlikely. Also, the gamepad is more familiar to XBOX360 owners than a mouse and keyboard. As a computer gamer, it probably doesn't make sense, but many people prefer the default controller. It's a noble cause, but economically they aren't going to do it. It's hard enough to get UbiSoft to patch the bugs, much less add features. Anyway, end derail.

Yes, buy R6:Vegas, it's all I play right now.
I think if you read my R6 forum post, you'll agree that economically, adding mouse and keyboard support would be very beneficial to 360 FPS game makers. Simply put, the gamepad is the niche market, not the mouse. The Wii and DS are examples of this. The PSP's lagging behind of the DS is an example of how the gamepad concept is a niche, and the "point and click" controllers are the mainstream.
Why is World of Warcraft and the Sims such huge hits with mainstream people? Mouse and keyboard. These two things are game controllers that everyone already knows how to use.
If they added kbam support to the 360 version, it would fuck over every person that didn't buy one and went against people that had them.
So there. It fails.
I like it better than Gears of War. Gears to me is like Contra. It's about atmosphere and lots of action, and you die ... a lot.
RSV is just a great in-your-face tactical shooter that has the graphics, sound and gameplay trifecta working perfectly. Also, squadmates are actually useful and easy to control. If anything, squad AI is too good. Kill stealing fuckers.

Just out of curiosity, how would you have the mouse and keyboard set up for playing when playing the 360? I usually play it on a chair or on my couch, as I imagine a lot of other people do, and unless you have some sort of Phanton-like control scheme I don't see the keyboard and mouse combo really working with a console.
I mean I guess you could hook it up to a PC monitor and play it on a desk, but at that point why not just buy the PC game?

I really hope the guys behind the SWAT series see this as an oppurtunity. SWAT 3 (Elite Edition, fyi) was one of my first PC games, and most of the principles I've learned from it have stuck with me throughout my gaming days. If they make a game that stays hardcore (primarily by keeping less-lethal equipment and the ability to arrest), and maybe adding the now-forsaken pre-planning from RS, they might make themselves quite a splash in the console market (much unlike Urban Justice).

Because the PC port is shit like all the other recent Ubisoft ports? I remember when Ubisoft used to put at least some effort to get their ports to work and work well. Those days seem to be behind us.

That might be nice, but who knows how that might turn out? A tactical shooter hasn't really made the console transition without being dumbed down at all. I would like to see it happen, and I'm very curious how the console market would accept such a thing. I'm not saying console gaming is bad or that console gamers are stupid, as I quite enjoy it myself, but console gaming is more predisposed to shallower experiences.

I still want to buy the PC version, because I own the 360 version of Rainbow Six Vegas and love it
but IMO Gears of War = Rainbow Six Vegas,
