So in order to back up my files and upgrade to Windows 7, i bought one of these today

I take it home, boot up my computer and plug it in

Only I have linux (for now, since my Vista is fried), and this has some bogus software installed on it that won't let me use the dang thing

My Google prowess is lacking apparently, so I have no idea what to do

help?

    Can't you just reformat it?

I use gparted. It works pretty great just be sure to know what you are doing with it. I am using Ubuntu.

    sudo apt-get install gparted
    sudo gparted

    Wicked.

I would also suggest using ntfs if you didn't go that route already. Unless you plan on exclusively using linux distros that are several years old, or something.

That odds that it would take that many time for a reformat to take. If you plan on dual booting OS's I would do NTFS.
