[RECOMMEND ME] Games to buy!

So, I just got a PS3 for Xmas. Its my first current-gen system, and am super excited to start playing games that have come out in the past 2 years. I'm pretty all over the place genre-wise, though I am a big fan of RPGs. (I have Dragon Age for my comp and love it.)

Not to be an ass, but since you haven't really told us anything that would lead one to believe that you are inordinately particular about your gaming tastes, I don't see why you can't just go here and see what strikes your fancy: http://www.metacritic.com/games/ps3/

But, as far as exclusives go, I quite enjoy Killzone 2 and MGS4.

I highly recommend both Uncharted and Uncharted 2.

Assassin's Creed 1 & 2 are both excellent. Look into Infamous as well.

Amazon has both Assassins games really cheap right now (39.99 for 2 and 15 for 1, I believe), as a heads up.

Beyond what has been mentioned above, get the rest of the Ratchet & Clanks.

Also, real men play Demon's Souls.

I think everyone covered all the major exclusives....EXCEPT FOR VALKYRIA FUCKING CHRONICLES!

Make sure you play Arkham Asylum as well.

As far as PSN exclusives, I recommend any and all Pixeljunk games (even Racer, although I'll admit that it's not my cup of tea, but I know people who enjoy it). Pixeljunk Racer, Monsters (tower defense), Eden (unique jumping platformer), and now Shooter (like Solar Jetman mixed with Choplifter). These are downloadable only from the PSN store. Fat Princess is quite popular and is a lot of fun (but it's definitely a multiplayer game at heart). Flower is not a must-buy, but I found it well worth my money.

Peggle is also available on the PSN. It may end your gaming life as you know it. Or it may get one of your relatives addicted to video games. It's a nice casual game if any of your friends/relatives want to play on your system but suck at video games in general. Other good gems (non-exclusive) on the PSN include Trine (RPG Platformer), Braid (Platformer), any PS1 Greatest Hits game (Final Fantasy VII and VIII and Tactics are on there), the HD remix of Siren (horror), Street Fighter II HD Remix, among other things.

You probably haven't played Dead Space yet. Do so. If you can get it as a rental, I'd rent it instead of buying (I got 90% of the trophies in about 15 hours, so it's not too long). Well worth playing.

Valkyria Chronicles really needs to be mentioned more. Go download the demo or something.

Definitely: Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed II, Braid if you don't already have it for the PC.
I would recommend Valkyria Chronicles to people that can tolerate JRPGs. The demo is pretty encapsulating (download it!). MGS4, obviously. It's not as good as 3 but, it's pretty good.

Maybe: I like Deadspace, also. I was buying dried pasta and fruit at costco the other day and it was super cheap as I glanced at the videogames, too. If you have a friend, Resident Evil 5 is cool for co-op. I don't dig the strafe button but, there's a lot of "Whoah!" moments, and they're way more exciting with a friend. Less scary, but better overall.

Demon's Souls is really cool, too. It's by the guys that made Otogi, if you remember that. And it plays absolutely nothing like Otogi, but it's that kind of pedigree. I think very few people actually understood what a fantastic game Otogi was, and I've heard people throw around "b-games designers" when describing FROM SOFTWARE, but for my money, I find their games pretty close to perfect in what they want to accomplish. Demon's Souls is kind of hard, sometimes in bad ways, and I wouldn't describe it as polished, or, shit, even balanced. It's essentially an anti-thesis to Braid (you are punished for the learning). But if you're a patient gamer it's really rewarding and super memorable.

PSN:
Pixeljunk Shooter is fucking slick. Eden is fun and light, really nice vibes permeate the Pixeljunk series. They get better with co-op, if you have a friend eden/shooter are must-haves.
NobyNoby Boy is apparently really hated by a lot of people, but I find the experience really relaxing. It's a game about eating things, it's developed by the Katamari guy. It's not very game-y, and I think that's why I like it. Funny to watch! really great when hanging out with friends, a perfect water cooler. Great for passing the controller around a room. Though, I find it quite satisfying alone.
