Slash000 thanks, will go back and add those in a minute, do you think you could run through and add platforms where you remember them? It would save me 28 trips to wikipedia...

Wow at the lists of titles from 2007 and 2008. "Golden age" doesn't seem like hyperbole when describing them.
2009 doesn't look weak at all, it's just the previous two years saw the release of one iconic game after another. But Uncharted 2, MW2, L4D2, Dragon Age, Arkham Asylum, Assassin's Creed 2, ODST, Killzone 2, and Street Fighter 4, Super Mario Wii, the XBLA and PSN hits... yeah, this was also a very big year.
Eufloria was actually on the 2008 poll when it was still named Dyson.
oh, even though it was officially a beta?
oh well, it's not like anyone would vote for it anyways.
I believe there is also Defense Grid (PC)
Yeah. I appear to be have made some errors concerning indie game "betas". Spelunky was on there last year too even though it only hit 1.0 this year (well.. the 1.0 is still a beta).
Noby Noby Boy deserves to win this poll.
Just because.
In all seriousness, though, what a fantastic year. I haven't even been able to buy everything from it yet.

"Lips: Number One Hits" was released this October - it's actually a sequel rather then an addon, if wikipedia is to believe, and features as many songs as the first one. In any case, it'd probably only get my vote around this place. ;-)

Throwing one out there: "Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram 5.66 (XBLA)". This is a port of an old game, but it was arcade-only and probably less than 10 machines ever made it out of Japan, so I'm not sure which side of the port/remake rule it falls on. An older version of the same game (v5.45) received a US Dreamcast port, but it had fewer characters and was basically the SF2 World Warrior to 5.66's Champion Edition. Nobody but me will vote for this game anyway, so it doesn't really matter what you do with this one.
I also didn't see Pokemon Platinum on the list. Not sure whether that would qualify for this either. There's enough new move changes, engine tweaks, and battle facilities to change the competitive aspect significantly, but the singleplayer quest is just Diamond/Pearl++.
Dragonica the free MMO-side scrolling fighter, Runes of Magic the free MMORPG and Valkyrie Sky the free MMO vertical scrolling fighter were all released in the west this year.
There are more free MMOs released this year, but I can't imagine anyone wants to vote for those and in many cases it is absolutely unclear when exactly they say their game went gold (Gunz for example has been in beta for years now).

or at least, games that many more people found disappointing than one usually sees
None of those years were that huge for me, just a couple standouts honestly (Burnout Paradise, Fallout 3, VC, Rock Band 1/2).
This year is crazy.
Also I didn't spot Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble (PSP) on the list.
1. Heavy Rain
2-20. Other stuff
Im waiting for Heavy Rain to come out and be good but not amazing. Thatd be funny to me.
Totally taking a day off of work for it
EDIT: It has a QTE to tie your tie when you wake up in the morning, that pretty much clinches my top spot
You're making me sad, Vow.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.

You what kind of game has waggle?
Not GOTY.

Super Mario Galaxy would disagree
My relationship with heavy rain has become intimate.

It loses points in my heart because I can't play it, not having an Xbox.

Man, could we split it into categories?
Also, last guardian for Game of the Millennium.

It's a survival horror text adventure where you have to not shit your pants.

It's a shame that it's only available through Live Arcade, it should easily have been released for the PS3 and PC as well. :?

Unfortunately for my purchased versions of Batman and Shadow Complex, they'll remain unplayed until 2010.
And here I thought I was the only one to have that as my goty. All the AAA releases get beat out by a budget game with soul to it.
