Happy NEW FINAL FANTASY THREAD
A thread about Fantasy's that are Final. Not Phantasy. Not Dragon Quest. Not Lost Odyssey. Certainly not Wild Arms, Legend of Dragoon, Blue Dragon, or Star Ocean. No The Last Remnant or Infinite Undiscovery. Not even Kingdom Hearts (You want a KH thread, that's fine, go make one.

I guess if you really want to you can talk about the Mana game released under the FF Adventure title or the three SaGa games released under the FF Legends Banner.
Anything about the games above is fair game.
This time around I'm going to do retrospectives on some of the missed titles. Basically the entire CC line besides the first one, After Years, Crisis Core, someone who truely loves the game and proves their worth to the thread can do Dirge, someone who has played more than a demo can do Crystal Defenders if they want. If one of you crazy importers can handle it they can do FF XIII.

Is there even enough gear kicking around in the surrounding towns to make that feasible? I know the weapons and armour shop are still closed at this point, so... *shrugs*
I think you can get four spears and a ton of armor just by exploring the town throughly. Also, I do think that one of the weapons stores is open.
Yeah, next time you can let it actually hit 100 pages. The threads aren't going to explode and kill the forum.
Hmm. I guess I need to buy some more smokes then.
edit: And yeah, I figured if I can get it before fighting more bosses, given the ridiculous amount of CP they give, that'd be nice.
FFIII is my least favorite Final Fantasy game by a significant margin.
That even includes Dirge of Cerberus...
What's this now? They're doing this again?
It's a set of PSP upgrades of a GBA sidegrade with new content of a PSX upgrade of 2 wonderswan color upgrades of two Famicom games.
If by 'again' you mean two years ago, yeah.
Trailer
They look really nice.
Have they released them for PSN yet?
Come talk about boardgames with us
I am concerned, because the system requirements for Last Remnant on steam are all "GTFO, puny laptop user"
Also, the opening cutscene for chapter 11 (closing of 10?) is INSANE.
I doubt it, doesn't FFXIV use the same engine as FFXIII ? My computer probably can't handle it either
For now. We'll see how long that lasts when they realize it's been in production all this time, and they essentially wasted plenty of time putting most of the Versus team to work on the Main 13 to let Versus just kind of sit there. (Unless they managed to move forward with the game with a fraction of the team?)
But it might stay exclusive, who knows.
They've been pretty adamant about it.
I can't help thinking the numbers that come out of FFXIII on 360 will play a role in deciding the ultimate fate of that exclusivity though.
edit: Woo! Killed that monster and got my CP-doubling item, now to finish the final dungeon!
Eyes forever focused, on the sanguine, metal dawn.
And, it's all ruined by the typical sloppy waggle controls that plenty of Wii games suffer from. I've heard after you realize you can't really pull off anything cool when you want to, the game nosedives really fast.
The trailers and vids looked really cool, though.
edit: To be clear, I'm including how well they show us when they don't give a flying fuck about a game, say, pretty much the entire Mana and Crystal Chronicles line.
It's on the Virtual Console. No excuses!
Didn't the asshole who created the Mana series say that he hated Secret of Mana, and that's why he continues to push different gameplay with the newer titles?
Because seriously, I wish I could get paid to be so wrong.
Damn, that's too bad. I was getting pretty pumped reading your first sentence. Oh how the waggle makes me sad =(

You forgot the MSX version.
Even ignoring the increase in difficulty, I think that's generally what people mean by "It's the most difficult FF game". The fights are harder. Nevermind that when you fail you can try again immediately...the point is that there is actual challenge in combat, which while flirted with in FFXII, had largely been a non-issue in the series since FF5.
Aside from that, I've only found a few of the story bosses mildly difficult.
Also, did the FF 12 team work on the FF IV DS remake, or do they just have a serious hard on for it? There's so many similarities and shared items between the two it's kind of hard to just chalk it up to coincidence.
It has almost the exact same title music, load screen music, heavy intro emphasis on airships. Zeromus is a side boss, they have essentially a loadstone cavern section. And that's all I can think of off the top of my head right now. And of course the standard Cid/Chocobo tropes, but those are in almost every FF game.
Just seems there were several elements specifically lifted from FF IV as opposed to the generic shared elements the rest of the series is known for.
Eh, XIII has a lot of very obvious homages in it as well. I don't put much stock in it being anything more than trying to wink slyly at the hardcore fans.
Also, I just finished the final boss of XIII and it was pretty awesome. The fight was challenging but not overly so, and the ending was enjoyable albeit short.
I look forward to now doing all the monster hunts and turning my characters into ridiculous combat monsters.
I have never, ever, ever died to a random battle at the very beginning of a Final Fantasy game since I got the first FF game on the NES.
Good grief.
Steam
Heh, I remember that happening to me when I imported the game before I knew any Japanese. I figured "It's FF4, I know how this works" and got raped.
Yeah, they made the game a LOT harder. I didn't find the beginning bad, but once I got through the Village of Mist? Yeah, started to get a whole lot tougher. Status effects are your friend, learn them and use them well... many enemies and bosses tend to be vulnerable to at least one major status ailment (slow, silence, etc).
It's clearly based on the Famicom version.
