Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

I really admire the character design of Ezio in Assassin's Creed 2, so I drew this up. I don't dig the awkward "my hand is totally on this abstract box thing and I'm cool with it" pose.
EDIT: Too bad I'm too late for that "How Far We Have Come" challenge, I found this way at the bottom of my bucket of photos:

Which is AWESOME.
I think I also need to go back and start putting some texture overlays on these things like Beavo does in her tutorial. It would definitely help to de-sterilize them a bit.
I should've used larger brushes from the start, I think.
Lnkplz?

Now that you say it I realize what the abstract box looks like....
An automatic hand dryer!
Which looks like a guy peaking out from behind a newspaper.
I usually don't agree with a Loomdun, but I think the loomdun is right. It makes it look strange.
Coincidence? I think not.
that's better
(keep tooting. there's some great improvement)
and thanks!
this is what happens when the only person in the entire committee who can make sites is also the one who is most bitter about the fact that they aren't getting paid to do this crap, but don't like disappointing people.
(( I USED SMOKE BRUSHES FOR THE BG. SMOKE BRUSHES. ahahaha! )) at least it's some practice i guess. still danged ugly.
Sorry, I'd been drinking....
I have started using color jitter when I am working on the color layer. It is the greatest thing ever for creating the effect of fleshtones quickly.
I'm glad you're becoming more fond of digital, because this is quite nice.
sure you could do the same thing but better in real media but I bet it'd take longer haha
for you I'd say digital will be really great for working out initial studies for a painting.

I was seeing what sort of texture I could make with filters, and doodled this guy on top.
he looks like older you sort of
1) As a small side note, one day, I really hope to be King Penis of Fuck Mountain.

Is it the values? It just seems so defined and "carved", like DMAC said.
Also, Zergling - I really like that too! Great little color sketch.
I used the same ref for a watercolor study last year! yours came out better though
A lot of the shadows are clearly defined through the form which gives strong indications of the planes of the face. This is what you can do when you study from life and migrate over to digital art after learning at a place like watts, you cant really get this same level of education by drawing digitally then stepping to life
edit: and thats not his father
With this one I just spent a lot more time carefully defining forms. I actually pushed his entire face a little darker than the reference, just to make some of the highlight areas on his face pop more. Which is what I think is making it feel so carved. Glad you guys like it, guess I found a formula I should stick with.
Nothing more fun than listening to Phoenix and drawing a lumberjack in the desert.
