    well, gran marnier/ gran gala is an orange-infused brandy-based liqueur, while cointreau/ triple sec is neutral spirit based. the gran marnier family has a much more complex flavor IMO. i think that curacao is like a sweeter triple sec.

    i really only use small amounts of orange liqueur in sours and generally don't use it anywhere else - it's not my favorite. frankie drinks it a lot because she likes sidecars and because she doesn't have a very sensitive palate, i generally just pick up the one-step-above-the-cheapest stuff for her. IMO cointreau is nowhere near worth the asking price, and also IMO there are alternatives to Gran Marnier that work nearly as well.
