The New Testament has done quite a number on me. Hearing it for twelve or so years with very few breaks will do that. Anyways, there's a story where, basically, a rich man goes to the Temple and donates a whole lot of money. Then, a poor widow goes to it and she donates a few pennies, but the poor widow did a greater deed because she had so much less but gave anyways.
What I'm saying is don't be one of these assholes who say "Oh, I'll give when I've got it. When I'm rich I'll give so much money to charity." No. Fuck you. Give now. Give what you can. Give it while you're a broke-ass mother fucker. It doesn't matter. Just do want you can and move on. You're not going to hurt because you gave five bucks to a disaster zone.

And those were some quality, life-affirming works of art.
You're a good guy for making this thread PI
You're a better man than I, Buster K.
Nahh
I kept thinking about making this thread but was dissuaded by the fact that every other charity thread gets shitted on with "We only give to Child's Play feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeert"
How can anyone be surprised by his fucking antics anymore? As soon as the earthquake went down anyone who actually knows what this douchebag is about could have told you what he was going to say.

I just signed up with the Mercy Corps to help out down there to do environmental damage assessment work as they start doing their reconstruction. Apparently, I'll be getting a phone call tomorrow or the day after and I could actually be down there in a week or two.
Feel this might be a good thing to do. Actually do something fucking worthwhile with my degree. Also, I've wanted to quit my current job for months now.
Need to sleep on this, but I think it'll be worth it.

60 minutes just aired a story with some pretty graphic clips in it from Haiti. Several US doctors flew down and one of them led 60 minutes to the "morgue" which pretty much just looked like a parking lot where they use a front loader and a dump truck. They also showed doctors using a hacksaw to amputate a boy's leg. And I mean show, on camera, with a yellow hardware store hacksaw.
Its shocking an eye-opening, but at the same time I wonder how many cases of medical supplies could have made it to that hospital instead of a camera crew with audio and video equipment?

That requires a level of coordination that isn't yet possible there. Someone with authority would have needed to know the crew was going there, and there's no central authority for them to go to right now. The government would normally be the ones tasked with that, but they're in ruin.

A lot of passengers protested (wouldn't get off the boat and go to the party), and the company is supposedly donating all money made in the ship's shops and at the resort to organizations supporting the relief effort.
Guess who feels like a dick because the nice girl went around the student lounge collecting money for Haiti relief and he had literally no money on him and she went away so disappointed

An article on how the military is basically having to invade Haiti due to it's lack of roads, air or sea ports.
There are even paratroopers going in
