Just click on that button at the top of the window that looks like the letter x, then click on the Opera shortcut on your desktop.
Edit: On the other side of the X is a pin icon. You can pin pages you want to always appear. If you pin 8 pages then I assume you'll never have the problem of unwanted pages popping up again.

yes but they do have add-ons to customize firefox so it has the features you want

yeah, that's what i meant, an autoupdating filter. the other things that turned me off to opera are the way it handled mouse gestures and the lack of password sync across your profile. oh, also the interface isn't as customizable, but that's a minor thing i guess; the interface is pretty minimal to begin with
