This is on the third page.
Why is this on the third page? And why has no one updated in a week?

I'm very disappointed in all the candy fanatics of the board.

Hey, is anyone still willing to bring some chocolate over from the UK?

I'm looking to get a present for a friend, obviously chocolate. I want to get something good, which I figure means expensive. That's fine with me, I'm willing to pay for it.

The thing is, I have no idea what chocolates there are in the UK. My only-limited-experience with "fancy" chocolate here in the States is Godiva, which can be fairly pricey. So, if you are familiar with Godiva at all, that's kind of what I'm looking for. Some high grade stuff, not just a grocery store candy bar.

What I want to get is one regular milk chocolate bar and one dark chocolate bar (as dark as humanly possible).

So guys, please let me know, one, if you are willing to bring some chocolate, and two, what kinds there are to choose from.

    Thanks.

Lucazzo: i don't trust the local place i buy it. pretty sure my last bottle had been replaced with mouthwash (seriously, not joking). If I'm at home for longer than a day (rather than at uni) i'll be able to grab a decent bottle. Not sure what the rules on importing it are though!

SteveB: I can get you some Green and Blacks. It's quality, but you can buy it everywhere. Sound good? Think I can find a 70% cocoa bar from it.

kropotkin, that would be amazing. If I were to pick a few things out from their site -just normal chocolate blocks, as they're called- would you be willing to get them?

As I've said, I'll pay for them. Especially since I'm looking to get at least 5, which the site lists will come to 8.95 euros, before taxes or what not.

Let me know what you need and I'll get some. There is a store very close to me, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Don't sweat it! Last year I asked if anyone wanted Toblerone. Ooooh I got burned for that one. I was told to 'get over myself' for that, heh.

they have toblerone in the US?
but that stuff would be horrible with HFCS!

i might pick up random little things and bring them. biscuits are normally good right? i have a feeling custard creams are at least a novelty.
    something like that.

Anyone coming from the UK that has some bag room left? My wife asked me to put in a request for a few packages of your Smarties (ours are totally different). I can either pay for them or snag you a drink or something. Just give me a heads up via PM so we can make arrangements!

The United States doesn't have Kinder eggs!? Blasphemy. Seriously, that's messed up. You guys know that there are Kinder eggs just north of the border in Canada right? If only the American border guard was more chill I'd bring a crate and auction them off for Child's Play or something... but that would almost certainly get taken since they'd think it'd be for resale.

I'll likely bring a few of those small Kinder Egg boxes over, among other treats.

... has anyone tried a Butter Tart? Maybe I should bring a box of those...

I know that for the time being all I requested was two bags/boxes of smarties as a taste test for my wife and I. If we love it, there will likely be an order put in for PAX to get a whole case XD

Looks like a lot of us are looking at a similar situation!

I guess I'll bring some Mars bars (ours are peanut free) and a bag of Goodies (I see no mention of them in the US... they are like... licorice candies? Oh gosh, very good!), Caramilk bars, Coffee Crisp, Crunchie bars? Some Kinder Eggs... oh and I think I saw some Smarties in little coloured eggs...

Actually they'd be taken because it's not legal to import kinder eggs across the border into the US :)

It probably depends on the quantity... I once had a friend who was really into this drink called Brio that he couldn't get in the states, I had bought a case and they said that since it was a case it could be for re-sale... probably also depends on whether or not the border guy is a jerk or not.

Kinder Eggs are against the law in the US. Big difference.

Man, I just read into this. That's insane... apparently its because there's "non-nutritive" elements within a confection. It's like saying that because a toy is part of a happy meal the kid will automatically try to eat it. That's messed up.

I wish everyone smugggling in Kinder Eggs good luck!

You guys can say stuff like "I made the Kinder Egg run in under 12 parsecs"

It is a funny situation really. While we in the US often joke about the UK being "The Nanny State" for a lot of the frivolous laws that are passed there, we have laws that prevent putting a toy in food because apparently fat, lazy assed parents can't be bothered to make sure kids do not shove a whole piece of candy in their mouth at once because it has a toy in it.

    Ridiculous really.

  • 50 More Trash50 More Trash Registered User

Maybe your law makers were onto something though... the once leader of your country nearly died eating a pretzel. Imagine if there was a toy in that pretzel!?

Do they have the Kinder Beauno bars or w/e in the US? Curious as to weather or not they sell those since they can't sell the Eggs. Kinda cuts their operations (I bet if they hired a lobbiest they'd get that law changed real quick)

So now that we're getting closer to the event how will we know which of our wonderful overseas/neighbors to the north will be bringing our goodies to get together? I was trying to think of something wonderful from the good state of Maine I could bring to repay the wonderful work of these folks, but lobsters are a bit snappy and Moose don't like to travel by train. I must think harder...

Well, I'll probably be carrying around a little easter basket with the eggs and hand them out to random people during the con. Not really looking for anything in return.

If you want to "reserve" an egg, I'll be at the Sheraton and probably at the Thursday pre-pax game night.

(I should put the fake stuff inside a nice glass container and be like "PSYCH!" but that would be uncanadian)
