Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
Jack Bauer has planted audio 'bugs' on President Logan, who in a fit of rage over his wife's behaviour at a ceremony for the dead President David Palmer, confesses to his role in the events of Day 5 (terrorist attacks across the country using Nerve Gas, narrowly avoiding a series of missile strikes from a docked Russian sub, etc).
The day finally coming to a peaceful resolution, Jack is informed by an agent that his daughter wishes to speak to him. Assuring Audrey Raines that he'll be right back, Jack proceedes into the building, only to find a dial tone and an ambush. Taken into custody by Chinese military forces, he is shown moments later on board a cargo ship destined for China. Beaten, battered and knowing what comes next, he asks merely that they kill him. Being too valuable to kill, they instead torture him for at least 7 months.
Season 6 begins
8pm (EST) on January 14th, the new season begins with a 2 hour premiere, followed by another 2 hours on Monday, January 15th, again at 8pm. On January 16th, a DVD will be released with all 4 episodes, as well as a short preview for episode 5.
A trailer is available for the season, both with the Season 5 dvds, and online, such as here.
So, this is the discussion thread for the new season of 24. Though you guys will discuss whatever you want, may I suggest a standard for spoilers? I will use a similar standard to what we are trying to adopt in the BSG thread.
1) For past seasons of 24 (seasons one through five), no spoiler tags are needed. These are already out on DVD and can be seen in syndication on several cable networks, so discussion of past seasons should be common knowledge.
2) For episodes that have already aired in season 6, the current season, spoilers should be marked with a [spoiler:3a749ca9d7]spoiler![/spoiler:3a749ca9d7] tag. This is for friends in areas of the world who may not get the new episodes as quickly as we in the States do. Note that this category should probably include wild speculation about future episodes that is based only on events from season 6 episodes that have already aired. Confirmed info from future eps should fall into the next category:
3) For future episodes of season 6 that have not aired yet, spoilers should be marked with a [realspoiler:3a749ca9d7]Real Spoiler![/realspoiler:3a749ca9d7] tag. And when I say spoilers, I don't mean speculation about what might happen - I mean leaked information about actual plotlines that will definitely appear in future episodes. That way people can discuss the current season without spoiling future eps for themselves, while those who just can't stand the suspense can look at the real spoilers.
Edit: according to what I've heard, the DVD has already been leaked onto the 'net, meaning that the first 4 episodes can be found if you look hard enough. Out of respect for those of us who are waiting for Sunday/Monday, please PLEASE use realspoilers for info gleaned from watching or reading about these coming episodes.

nuke go boom
[/spoiler:5b881d86f4]
That hasn't technically aired yet, so it should be
[realspoiler:5b881d86f4]Seriously, nuke go motherfucking boom.[/realspoiler:5b881d86f4]
[realspoiler:5b881d86f4]Also, two thing. First, I find the character of Tom Lennox interesting in a sad and disturbing way because I'm utterly convinced our current administration is full of people just like him. Also I find Wayne to be a sad and pitiful piece of shit thus far...his brother is looking at him from the beyond wondering how the fuck they could be related.[/realspoiler:5b881d86f4]
EDIT:
[realspoiler:5b881d86f4]Last minute addition: I really liked having him shoot Curtis. I was actually wondering for a second what was going to go down: was he going to hesitate too long, was he going to go through with it and shoot him, or was he going to be unable to do it at all? Plot-wise, there wasn't a clear outcome that had to happen (unlike, say, the few "oh noes! will Jack die?!" moments we've had in the past) so there was some element of suspense. Same with the nuke...part of me figured the second he said it was ready to detonate that the situation was fucked, but part of me remembers similar situations in the series in the past resolving much less catastrophically. I'm actually kinda glad they let the nuke go off, but I'm wondering how quasi-believably they'll manage the aftermath.[/realspoiler:5b881d86f4]
I used to wake up around 8am and watch the opening moments of Third Watch (which is for some unknown reason still not on dvd ), which apparently A&E no longer has the rights to, or something.
Anyways, they replaced it with a couple of shows, and eventually settled on 24. I'd heard about the series before, but never caught an episode.
After watching part of Season 1 and 5 (20-30 min at a time) I was hooked. Bought and watched all 5 seasons over the course of the last few months, and am now eagerly anticipating the new season.
Which of course will be somewhat jarring given that I'll, y'know, have to actually wait a week to see a new episode.

This will also be the first time I've had to wait for new episodes. I'm hoping it works out okay, I remember that this was a large part of why I started to get annoyed with Lost.

I've watched all the seasons (except the first one) this way - week to week as the season is on its first run. Seasons two and three were excruciating, because it still ran the same as other primetime shows, where they would take long breaks and skip weeks sometimes so they could stretch out the season over 9 months. It was awful.
Four and Five were a little better though, since they decided to only air it in the spring and have at least one episode every single week. At least now you can be assured that the longest you'll have to wait in between new episodes is one week, instead of a month. It's still painful, but it's a little better.
On the plus side though, it's kind of fun to watch it this way. You always have something to look forward to at the beginning of each week (that isn't Monday Night Football), and you can throw 24 parties and everything. The tension between episodes can add a lot to the series.

Yeah, I imagine some of the cliffhanger endings (you know, like almost every episode) will carry a lot more weight when watching the resolution isn't just a matter of hitting a button.
Put the gun down now! PUT THE GUN DOWN now!
Guess which season that's from.
Trick question; all of them?
Season 5 when he shoots Henderson's wife in the leg shocked me. It was a perfectly "Jack Bauer moment", where he does something so horrific to get information that my jaw just dropped.
Also, Season 2 when he and Sherry Palmer come face to face. One of my favourite moments in the series where he puts her right in her place.
I still remember the first moment of awe I really experienced with 24 on what a bad ass Jack Bauer is. Up until this point I had been watching the show because my parents watched it, but after this I started watching it of my own accord.
It was in Season 4 when he goes on a one-man justicefest to rescue Heller and Audrey from the compound they were in. I am so looking forward to a new season.
Also, if they do die, its a 50/50 chance that its jack that kills them.
No shit. There should be a drinking game where you take a shot every time Jack kills or tortures somebody. Two if it's a major character. Three if it's a good/innocent person.

Jack really isn't the nicest of guys.
I like your style, sir. I shall be doing this from now on.
So did anyone else laugh when [realspoiler:0a548e9e58]Jack totally bit that guy?[/realspoiler:0a548e9e58]
I thought it was hilarious and kept giggling the rest of the episode.
[realspoiler:656f5ff847]I'm glad that Curtis got shot. The man can't act, and his 3 facial expressions get tiring. Anyone else laugh at the look he gave Jack, when Dr. Bashir was on the phone, arranging his pardon?
In related news, I think this is the way Carlos Bernard wanted Tony to die, with Jack shooting him before he could kill Henderson, but the writers/producers felt it was the wrong way for him to die (and I agree).[/realspoiler:656f5ff847]

Ah, ok. Yeah, thanks for the spoilers folks, I'd hate to have it ruined.

I just started watching 24 last season, I just turned it on, and only like the last 20min were left. Now I cannot believe how long I have gone without watching the series, its been nearly a year it seems. Btw, someone got a link to those Commercials for Calorie Mate that Keifer did? Someone had those links here before...
EDIT: Also, please don't spoil anything before last season, I still have to get the DvDs,

read the rules in the OP because I don't want you to have anything spoiled unexpectedly.

Yeah, if we didn't have some kind of cutoff point, the posts would be nothing but giant black and grey sections. If you REALLY want to get caught up in a few hours, I recommend reading the season synopsis on Wikipedia. Failing that... you've still got enough time to kill at least 2 seasons before Sunday. Assuming you don't need to sleep or have any pressing engagements this weekend.
I promised myself that since they're only a week behind the US here in the UK this season, that I was going to watch this series on TV, instead of on the PC (usually it's more like 6 weeks).
But now I know there are 4 hours out there on the internet. God dammit. I'm only human.

Then I realized it was all serious. :?

p.s. Jerks
funny, but DO NOT ABUSE THE SPOILER TAGS. IT'S INCONVENIENT AND RUDE AND YOU CAN GET JAILED.
DON"T BE A DICK.
Actually, fucking around with realspoilers is a banning, IIRC.
And throwing out spoilers to non-related material without warning people is a complete dick move.
Sending a whole bunch of nobodys to grab the nuke?
Yeah, its definitely going off. [/realspoiler:9e3446a5a6]
Yeah, I shoulda noticed that. Makes perfect sense now.
Hello, Mr. Tivo. Goodbye, Mr. Free Time.

Actually, same goes for anything that happens in that show at all.
Really must keep the salaries (aside from Sutherland's) down to kill off much/most of the cast every season or two.
I've come to terms with the concept that, aside from Jack, anyone might die at any time.
Or be a mole, or a terrorist, or an assassin.......
Also, if they do die, its a 50/50 chance that its jack that kills them.
That's why it's so cool.
The beginning of last season, I was all D:
Maddie: "I am not!"
Riley: "You're a marsupial!"
Maddie: "I am a placental mammal!"
No shit. It's like, "Oh, you like these characters, eh?"
*BOOM!*
Fuck you, audience. Now marvel as Jack Bauer goes all Jack Bauer on some motherfuckers to avenge them.
No shit. There should be a drinking game where you take a shot every time Jack kills or tortures somebody. Two if it's a major character. Three if it's a good/innocent person.

24 time always means good times, because me and some of my friends always have a get together to watch the entire season. What a great show.
Ever notice how ol' Jack always shoots people twice? That man is thorough.
Ah, ok. Yeah, thanks for the spoilers folks, I'd hate to have it ruined.

Especially the end of Season 2. I laughed so hard when he was talking Kim through defending herself.
*BLAM* "Now shoot him again."
