What cool stuff is there to do? We are going to hit up the hockey museum and stay at a hostel I guess. That is the extent of our plans.

I am pretty much up for doing anything. Dancing/drinking/debauchery, whatevs.

My neighbor warned me not to wear jeans WTFs up wi' 'dat?

Help!

    What? Not to wear jeans?

Possibly in clubs, which I have heard, although it will vary depending on the club you'd want to get in to.

    Smoked meat sandwiches.

I can recommend Abie's Smoked Meat and Steak.

She told me that it'd single us out as Americans or something and that we'd get ripped off. I was doing the polite nod thing at that point though.

Speaking of clubs are there any good ones that are relatively laid back? I'm not much of a clubber here to begin with, but I do hit the dance floor on occasion.

Go to Noir for dinner if you can. I also liked M burger. I didn't speak a word of French and it was no problem, also, no one assumed I was American because I was in jeans. Pretty much everyone out and about was in jeans. Can't say about the clubs though.

People who don't speak functional English in Montreal are the exception. What the shit is all this about jeans? Go to a titty bar, they're pretty fun in Montreal.

Yeah, everyone here wears jeans too, I don't know where your neighbor gets these ideas.

Well if you wanna hit bars... what kind of bars do you like and what do you usually drink?

We are reformed jerks who are now classy gentlemen. Hitting up a few rowdy places would be fun, but nice places would probably be preferable.

Dude, it's Montreal. If it's your first time, you gotta go to a titty bar.

Well if you hang around the downtown area you should have plenty of options to explore throughout the night. There's Club Super Sexe with a decent selcetion of women if you like strippers, and not too far from there you have Crescent street where most of the higher class bars are located, though some of those might have a dress code. I don't know the big dance clubs really well though, I visit some once in a while but I'm more of a sit down bar kind of guy.

Checkout the view from the top of Mount Royal, it's pretty rad. But then again thats more of a "wow look at that view" and may or may not be what you're looking for if you're going clubbing/tittybar-ing

EDIT: also, poutine is freakin' awesome.

There are some great art museums there, I recommend them. Eat at Rotisserie Romados, it's an excellent lunch spot. Go up to the Chalet du Mont Royal to get a nice view of the city skyline at some point. It's pretty during the day or night.

Jeans won't single you out as Americans. Plenty of people wear jeans here, just as much as in the USA, I would suspect.

    - Eat smoked meat at Schwartz's. Order a cherry coke with it or you is a scrub. Arrive early or risk waiting outside for a while.
    - Club Super Sexe is a fine titty bar. You may also enjoy Chez Pare, which is on Stanley (I think), just below Ste-Catherine.
    - The Bodies exhibit is currently on at the Eaton's Center downtown. It is pretty cool, and if you are students, you can get in for like, 15 bucks each.
    - O.Noir is a great place for an 'experience' meal. If you like (or would like to try) French cuisine, I suggest L'Express on St-Denis (fair warning: it can be a bit expensive).
    - If you have time, a walk/hike up Mount Royal can be very enjoyable.
    - Don't worry about not speaking French; most folks here speak two languages. Be nice and you're sure to get help.
    - Wearing jeans will not single you out as Americans. Your friend is being silly.
    - As has been said, however, some clubs will refuse you entry if you are wearing jeans and/or running shoes. If you are planning to go clubbing (and not just hit up a pub, of which there are many fine choices), then your best bet is to bring some nice pants and shoes.
    - Please enjoy our city!

Indeed. As a nice French speaker, I'm annoyed when I hear people who've never been to Québec say that we're assholes and we hate English people/Americans/The rest of Canada/Every other human being. While it is true that there are some stupid cock French-only speakers (the same way every place has idiots), most of us are bilingual, especially in Montréal, and those who aren't will just say that they're sorry and they don't speak English. As long as you're courteous and polite, you should be fine in absolutely every situation. Do not worry.

Why in particular are titty bars in Montreal awesome?

I might be going in July, possibly by myself or with a female friend, and I think I'd need a pretty compelling reason to go.

Where I went you were allowed to touch. They normally have rules posted.

Also French Canadian chicks are dirty whores, but classy.

if you want something a bit more interesting than a titty bar

    try "sexy breakfast"

there are a few places in montreal where your servers are young, attractive women, and they are all naked

it's completely desexualized, and they act no differently than clothed servers; in fact, it seems like they're less likely to be hit on than fully clothed servers, because a guy who hits on a waitress at this place is automatically gross and creepy

it is the most bizarre, surreal experience, and breakfast is cheap and good too.

Now what's worse, seeing naked people in a heavily sexualized setting where it's understood, or a not necessarily sexualized setting where you feel like a creep for perving while eating? :D

Montreal is pretty much Canada's party city. There's a thriving sex industry because Montreal is a thriving party city because there's a thriving sex industry because Montreal is a thriving party city etc.

Going to the strip club is part of the culture... Dogtown you can't throw a rock without hitting a strip bar. Sex in French culture is less taboo then in English Canada. My teenage years, I spend many a nights watching soft core porn at 11:00 p.m on over the air French channels.

Jeeze, I went to Montreal for my spring break 2 years ago and it was right after a horrible snow storm and we were wondering why barely anyone was walking on the sidewalks.

We didn't know about the underground city until our last day, we felt like such jackasses.
