LG do a 22 inch lcd, 1080p with hdmi ports that's absolutely gorgeous for £135 brand new, so it's probably work out to $230? I was playing on a an old CRT tv up until ff13 at which point I bought the aforementioned lg one, being able to play the game from more than 5 feet away is an absolute joy.

the battle system is a lot of fun, there's little to no necessary grinding, it looks absolutely gorgeous, and the story actually has some good moments (though the overall plot is pretty wonky)

The music is fantastic, yeah.
Except for this one zone in chapter 11 that is quite big (not the main big zone) and has this really short elevator music loop that drove me absolutely crazy by the end.

it's not only the worst final fantasy games i've played, it's honestly the worst written game - at this level of polish at least - i've played. it's hard to understand how a story with such little regard for pacing, any narrative drive or direction, remotely mature or even consistent protagonists etc. could be made... but then (most) japanese writing is hard to understand, i suppose

the gameplay is also way below par for ff with a system that relishes easy but bloated and lengthy battles, and a levelling system so miscalculated that half the time you've got nothing to advance

The longest fights should take about 5-6 minutes. Then you have some fights that end in 5 seconds.
