help me remember this 90s era miniseries.

I think it was a miniseries.
It took place on another planet, maybe a series of planets, I'm not sure.
One scene that has really stuck with me all this time was this one where this person was at a doctor but the doctor was out and his apprentice/assistant/whatever was there and the person needed surgery
The only way to do the surgery was some kind of special gloves that let him reach inside the person, but he wasn't skilled at using them but he had to because the doctor wasn't around.
that's all I really remember about it, I know its not much, but I've seen the collective might of Arcadia do some amazing things and I hope you all can help me remember this.

They were called tissue gloves.
They were used when people got infected with worm creatures that screamed.
In the scene - the gloves wouldnt work, because he didnt know how to use them.
