Mysterious port

Quick question: What is this?

p1010708.jpg

I've identified every port, socket, and connector on my new laptop, except for this one. I've gone through the specs a dozen times, and this port just shouldn't exist. I was given this laptop by my uncle, who left all documentation in a hotel room somewhere, so that avenue is closed to me.

    it's likely:

    1. a port for a printer

    2. a port for a monitor

What brand is your laptop? That looks like a form of scsi port.

Edit: Well, it looks like the proprietary scsi port on a scanner I have.

But I've seen it on printers and stuff too.

It's an Acer Aspire 7730G-584G32Mn. I guess I should have mentioned that before.

I don't know, it doesn't seem like it would fit. My port is rectangular with two slots inside, as well as two whatever-the-hell-it-is on the outer edges. It doesn't fit with any of the pictures on the link you gave me.

I think it's a docking port, you plug it into a docking station to transmit video audio and input so you don't have to plug in tons of cables every time.

Holy crap, you're right. Google image search confirms it. Thanks!

It doesn't seem like it's anything I'll ever need, though.

You'd be surprised how useful docking stations are when you have one. Especially if you move around a lot and like to have a nicer setup at your desk.

My only peripheral is a mouse I carry in my laptop bag. Anyway, thanks again, everyone.
