I will teach you the basics of HoN and won't be mean about it. My in game is the same as it is here, just friend me and we can work out a time (weekends are usually best).

I will vouch for this fellow as a reasonably even-keeled dude. His ability to be normal while playing this game is extraordinary when viewed alongside the rest of the community.

of all the MOBAs I've tried I like HoN the best. Granted I haven't played a lot but whatever.

Also, Dis, I saw 25k on when I played last night. That is probably prime time though, 5pm on the west coast and 8pm on the east coast.

I have to wonder how much of their customer base is expected to be beta conversions.

Getting satisfied free players to convert to paying is a reasonable business model, but they're going to run out of satisfied free players pretty quickly. I wonder what their marketing plans are now.

I think the plan is word of mouth, competitive ESPORTS and having ridiculous tournament prizes for said ESPORTS.

Try branching out. They can't ban every ban worthy hero so make sure you're good with all of them, then find a few guilty pleasures. I played a lot this weekend which kind of surprised me. I think 6 stats games, 2 match making and 3 or 4 no stats. Good times.

I'm also reluctant to get it because the only friends I ever made were from South America. No one here ever seemed to be on when I was.

I'm in the opposite boat. I got into the sc2 beta and I am not really impressed. the battle.net interface is a joke (maybe they will change it, I don't know) patching is like pulling teeth and the game itself is very samey. There's usually about 20k-30k online at any time so it is easy to find games. What time do you usually play?

Yeah I've played like 3 games of SC2. HoN is so much more fun. (I might feel different once I play SC2 campaign, but screw the beta)

They aren't really other than the fact they are both RTS type computer games that came out arnound the same time. They just both vie for my limited amount of game time.

After playing HoN for the last 4 months or so, I went and tried a game of DoTA again - just to see what it was like now with all my HoN experience.

HOLY COW almost unplayable. After getting used to the speed, graphics and improved controls/UI of HoN, the WC3 engine just seems awful. This game is so worth the $30 for anyone who likes a dota style game.

This is the exact same as the community of basically every single multi player online game so I'm not sure why HoN and DotA get singled out as terrible when the exact same thing happens in CoD, WoW and LoL for example. People at least at the level I play at rarely leave since you can't multiple account anymore, I don't think I've ever seen someone spew racial slurs and you can turn off both chat and voice if you want to.

I can't imagine going back to DotA after playing HoN for a year. Leaver rejoins, stats, graphics, much better interface (follow command is god) Its still unstable as hell for me--crashes fairly regularly. but I deal with it.

HoN is also starting to build up a stable of interesting heroes that DotA doesn't have: Engineer, Hellbringer, Fayde, Zephyr, Chipper, Forsaken Archer (and these are just the competitive ones we're leaving out Panda, Madman, Scout, Dark Lady, Nymph , Deadwood etc.) As well as porting over some of the better DotA heroes like Kunkka, Puck, and Beastmaster.

I never really liked LoL when I tried it. The graphics didn't appeal and it just didnt grab me. Is the community THAT much better? is the game that much better? it seems VASTLY more popular here on the forums and even my old DotA vent server had most people switch to LoL, with only 4 or 5 of us going to HoN (and noone plays dota anymore). Is this a function of $30 price tag vs. $0 ? Or tailoring the game to competitive play vs. tailoring it to casuals?

I still play roughly a game a night. Sometimes it is no stats, sometimes it is stats. Pub games get MUCH better over 1600.
