I think the Sheraton is the best option (again). It has many rooms available, it's close, and it was a blast when you saw elevator load after elevator load of PAXers get off and on on the Prudential Center floor during PAX East.

I stayed at the Executive Hotel Pacific in 2007 and 2008 and it was basic but tolerable.
I had much more fun in 2009 at the Sheraton. There are just so many more of US there.

Just got a great deal on the Red Lion hotel on 5th Ave. Airfare for two from DC and the hotel for 1,064 isn't a bad deal from CheapTickets.com

Also I was just in Seattle at the beginning of March I'd advise if you get in at a normal hour to look at taking the Link Light Rail from Seatac Airport rather then the expensive shuttle services. We paid 2.50 each and it was a nice, 30 minute ride with a view into Downtown.

I wound up reserving a room at the Ramada Downtown. As awesome as it was to be in the hotel connected to PAX East, I gotta go with the budget option here. Was able to get a rate of $94 per night, but Google maps estimates it as a 14 minute walk (0.7 miles). I figure even if I cave in and taxi it once or twice I'm still saving money, as the total cost was $300 less than any of the official hotels (although that free breakfast buffet sounds awesome!).

Now I have a real question for the PAX Prime veterans: what is the cheapest way to get from the airport to a hotel? I called the Ramada and they don't run an airport shuttle, and said to budget $45 for a taxi. Is this accurate? Is there any recommended airport shuttle service that I could save money by calling ahead and reserving with?

I haven't been to PAX Prime, but here is a primer on walking around Downtown Seattle.

During the day from 6 AM to 7 PM the buses in the Downtown area are all free (yes absolutely 100% free) assuming its a year round thing. After 7 PM its not much like 1.50 or something and they run till midnight. There are TONS of buses in downtown so trust me its not hard to catch one.

Walking in Seattle also isn't hard, as long as you're not walking up the hill. Hills in downtown in some places are INCREDIBLY steep. But with that said we went to Seattle for a week at the beginning of March without a car and got around just fine between walking and using the bus system.

As for getting from the airport to downtown my recommendation is the Link Light Rail, its like 2.50 and takes you as far as westlakes center. From there you could hop a bus or get a significantly cheaper cab.

Edit: Here is a page with a map of the free ride area in downtown Seattle: http://metro.kingcounty.gov/tops/bus/ridefree.html

Unless they've done extra rennovations at the Sheraton, the picture you posted is for a Deluxe room, not the standard. That said, if there's an option to book the deluxe room through the PAX travel desk everyone should, since it's only like $9 more per night at normal price anyhow.

One of the best kept secrets is the Silver Cloud Inn on Broadway. Why?

Tons of good food and drink on the way to and from the hotel to the WSCTC and it's less expensive.

Another vote for Link Light Rail. Seattle folk do not seem to be buying into this very much so it's never crowded and dirt cheap. Drops you right into downtown at Westlake.

    Important note!

Make sure you contact the hotel and ask them which Link Light Rail stop is closest. We made the mistake of not doing this and going all the way Westlakes, only to find out our hotel was across the street from Pioneer square and nearly seven blocks away. o_O

It was definitely a doh moment.

I shall do so. I have not called the hotels yet, but when I do, I will add this to my list of questions.

The first post is under construction still. I am going to dinner and a movie tonight so it will probably be finished tomorrow.

Also going with the $94 special at the Ramada. Too good to pass up. Tried one of the "main" hotels last year and wasn't impressed. The Red Lion is cramped and too full of PAXers for check-in and check-out to go smoothly. The staff was also really grumpy by the end of the weekend.

Nothing wrong with a 15 minute walk.

We stayed a bit far away for PAX East this year, but I think this time we want to stay a bit closer to everyone else. Try to break out of the anti-social thing we have going on the rest of the year.

Hyatt and Sheraton are equal distance to PAX.

Hyatt is a nicer hotel, but if you're looking just for some place close and dont care about anything else, Sheraton is cheaper.

I'm torn actually because the staff at the Hyatt rock, but $64 for the trip is a bit lame.

I'm still rooting for the Sheraton...

But then again Crowne Plaza is cheap and has plenty of rooms for PAX goers as well...

I wanna be near the con center and in the same hotel with the heaviest PAXer presence...

Last year there was a large thread sticky'd for room sharing; people would post if they had space available and if they were looking for space.

The same thing should happen at some point this year.

I wanna be near the con center and in the same hotel with the heaviest PAXer presence...

    Decisions decisions...

Since I am attending solo (wife snickered at that, but I’m the only one in my group interested) that is what I'm wanting as well. I think I'll leave my reservation at the Hyatt and change if necessary.

I can't decide between Sheraton, Hyatt, and Homewood Suites...

For anyone who is interested, The Homewood Suites is awesome. Rooms are huge, very nice, and the free breakfast there is unmatched. It's full hot meals that aren't terrible quality. They also have flatscreens in the rooms with A/V inputs available for consoles. We ended up hooking a 360 in our room last year. There's free Wi-Fi and the front desk was nice enough to bring us an ethernet box up so we could connect the 360 too. The only reason I'm considering other hotels is because I'd like some variety. If your thinking about Homewood I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.

The Grand Hyatt is very nice; bathroom is as epic as they say. It's also where the main PAX VIPs stay so you tend to see them here and there. I rode the elevator with Bill Amend and was able to tell him how much I liked his panel and his comic. That was a nice experience.

See you at the Homewood Suites parabola. I couldn't say no to it. Unfortunately the PAX site doesn't let you reserve room types. If you get in one of the corner rooms, its about twice the size a hotel room should be haha

This year, I've decided I'm staying at the closest one, ours was and 8 dollars taxi ride, and I would feel much better just walking to the convention center.

So I'm thinking of staying at either the Sheraton, the Hyatt, or Homewood. One of the best things about staying at the Sheraton in Boston was the gaming in the lobby. Does anyone have info on the lobbies and how the staff would react to a gamer takeover?

I may have two people available.

If my friend is as generous as he was during our last Games Day trip, he may spring for the hotel.

Unless they've done extra rennovations at the Sheraton, the picture you posted is for a Deluxe room, not the standard. That said, if there's an option to book the deluxe room through the PAX travel desk everyone should, since it's only like $9 more per night at normal price anyhow.

I'll look around for a picture of the basic room. There is a travel site I can go to for pics taken by guests.

I found a picture of the basic room that was taken in November 2009.

*laughs* Yeah, I was originally considering posting a picture of the basic rooms the MNC stayed in for PAX08, but I wanted to wait until a REAL picture could be posted first, cause the guys were kind of assholes to each other:

(Thank god Brian and I got our own room in the other tower! :p)

The last two years I've stayed at the Green Tortoise Hostel but I need a break from the hostel environment and booked a room at the Crowne Plaza Seattle so I'm looking forward to not (possibly) sharing a room with a bunch of strangers this year.

I reserved a room for 2 at the Sheraton but I'm sort of considering not sharing a room this year if I can't get any of my friends to go.
