[Chaos] CitOW Game 12 - Game Over - Slaanesh Victory
Posts
And yes, I think you win with 52 VP or something like that. I could have won next turn with a double tick, and Tzeentch would maybe have been in the running for VP.
Good game, and I hope it won't be my last here.
Kislev: 2 lepers
The Empire: 1 leper, Bloodthirster
Estalia: seductress, leper, 2 bloodsworn, bloodletter, plaguebearer, bloodsworn, peasant
The Border Princes: 1 acolyte
Khorne earns 3 DIAL tokens and draws two cards
Some interesting decisions, there. Tzeentch could have finished off the rest of the cultists in Estalia, delaying ruination for another round. We'll see in a bit just how much he regrets his choice.
Domination step:
Tilea: +2 VP (5 > 2 > 1)
The Badlands: +1 VP (3 > 2 > 1)
Corruption step:
Bretonnia: +1
Estalia: +1
Tilea: +3 DIAL, +1
The Badlands: +3 DIAL, +2
Check for Ruination:
Estalia is the second region ruined (4 + 3 + 5)
Khorne scores 4 VP for contributing to its ruination this step
Tilea is the third region ruined (1 + 8 + 1 + 2)
Tzeentch and Slaanesh each score +4 VP for contributing to its ruination this step
The Badlands are the fourth region ruined (1 + 9 + 3 + 2)
Tzeentch and Slaanesh each score +5 VP for contributing to its ruination this step
New VP:
Khorne: 8 + 4 = 12
Nurgle: 19
Tzeentch: 12 + 12 = 24
Slaanesh: 25 + 9 = 34
DIAL tokens:
Khorne: 3
Nurgle: 0
Tzeentch: 2
Slaanesh: 0
Board after corruption:
coming
During the end phase:
1. Remove Chaos Cards from the Board
2. Hero Tokens are resolved - Nurgle chooses two targets in the Empire; Khorne loses a bloodsworn in Estalia
3. Resolve Old World cards - Witch Hunter removes one corruption from Khorne in the Empire and in Estalia
4. Score Ruined Regions
Estalia: +10 VP, +2 VP, +2 VP
Tilea: +8 VP, +2 VP, +2 VP
The Badlands: +8 VP, +4 VP
5. Advance Threat Dials - Khorne has the most tokens and double-ticks; Tzeentch ticks once
Khorne:
28 - Upgrade
31 - Draw 2 Cards
Tzeentch:
20 - Upgrade
New VP:
Khorne: 12 + 2 = 14
Nurgle: 19 + 4 = 23
Tzeentch: 24 + 16 = 40
Slaanesh: 34 +16 = 50
6. Check for Game end - the game ends
a. DIAL victory has not been achieved
b. At least one player has at least 50 VP
Slaanesh is victorious
I'm really not sure what Nurgle was going for, that last round. He could have used the GUO to finish off Kislev on its own, forcing Tzeentch and/or Slaanesh to decide if they wanted to venture north to try to steal bonus or second place points; the Great Foul Consumption just ended up being a magnet for Khorne's troops to come play. Another option would have been to drop he GUO in Estalia, either once or twice, looking to at least tie Slaanesh for first, if not win it outright. Dropping it in the Empire allowed him to take out the bloodthirster, but with the Battle Cry in effect was almost certainly a wrong play.
Khorne spent all his effort on preventing Slaanesh from benefiting too much from Estalia and shutting down Nurgle in Kislev. Consequently, the ruination of Tilea and the Badlands were overlooked; it's important for everyone to keep an eye on the big picture.
Tzeentch made a few small decisions there that allowed the game to end early - most obvious of those were teleporting away the bloodletter from Tilea instead of the seductress and letting the bloodsworn live so that Estalia was ruined. Had either of those been played differently, the game would be extended to a final round, with another Up from Skavenblight placing two more Skaven tokens in play.
Still, hindsight is 20-20, and it's easy to sit on the sidelines and find mistakes in play. Overall, a well-played game by all players, and everyone was within striking distance of victory.

It is quite scary how late game ruinations can completely swing the VPs off the scale and I've seen Tzeentch take advantage of that in one game to come out as a surprise winner. He is still my most hated god with his hateful spells and I'd quite like to try him at some point.
Next time I play Slaanesh I will definitely pick the +1 to defence cultist upgrade as they got hammered and Khorne capably denied me any dial advancements. I'm also slightly disappointed that I only drew one Fields of Ecstasy (deny any battle dice) in that whole game. I was hoping that with 9/9 PP I'd be able to mess people around with my Soporific Musk (control any player's cultist) but I never got the chance.
I forgot to say a massive thanks to Darian for hosting the game and providing frequent updates. I will sign up for more and more!

You guys all did great; this one was a pleasure to run, as quickly as the turns went around.
