How can you people call this stuff doodles? Nearly everything I've seen that you've classified as such is amazing.

"Art that I didn't feel like making a new thread for" doesn't have the same ring to it.

Ah. Continue on. I was just saying that most of the work that comes through here can hardly be considered doodles.

Then here's one for you, core.
A friend of mine asked me to doodle up some flyers for his pet grooming business idea. Here's one of the doggies that resulted.

Sometimes it's stuff that you don't intend to rework, so you don't want to get a whole lot of crits, but you do want to show it off.

Can someone help me with her feet? A paintover would be a GODSEND.

Anyways, dickin' around. I love using reference more, it feels healthy, and it is fun to see how little the picture is like the reference, but just feels better than if it was from my head.

    beach_bitch2.jpg

At least, it's easier to do for me.

I dunno how much help this will be, but I noticed two things wrong with her. Number one, there's no perspective in your picture, and two, she has no balance. The feet don't look right because they're in a weird position, with proper perspective thrown in first it makes balancing the figure easier when it comes to actually drawing it.

Lord knows I have lots of trouble with legs and feet as well Frank, but if I have anything to add it's that you might benefit from paying more attention to the contour of the calf muscle. On her right leg for example, the calf seems to originate from her thigh mass, when in reality it attaches at the same height as the kneecap.

While Max's new gesture seems a bit more sturdy, I don't think that was the main problem with Frank's, as it's entirely possible to stand naturally with one leg locked and the other cocked...

Thanks for all the crits on creep w/ girl in the previous thread; didn't check back before the lockdown. >_<

I wasn't putting my finger on what looked wrong with it before; you're all awesome. The depth implied by the foreshortening on his arms doesn't really agree with the apparent distance between his feet and hers. <3s, guys.

Couldn't think of anything else for her to say..

Knowing how to use reference is just as important as using them I think, and recently I have been practicing both, I really am enjoying the difference in my art. It also allows me to experiment more with style and color.

We got out of school because of "Icy Conditions". Basically, it was below 30 and there was some sleet. God, I love Texas.

I'd like some feedback on this before I go any further.

When I scan them in, the white background looks really glaring nasty. I like toning it down with the brown/orange.

The lower body seems more shallowly angled away from front-on than the upper body. Slightly. The crotch being off-center would mean that the lower body would be more angled.

    I really don't.

I too used to think there was some magic pencil out there that could give you those awesome fat and loose strokes until I watched the Marko DVD. Frank knows where it's at. It's not magic pencil, it's magic paper (too bad bristol board is too expensive for me to sketch on :S)
