The second image definitely looks like ranger attire.
Is it safe going into combat with that on?
Elementalists can do crazy stuff so in their case it's ok, but rangers are supposed to wear leather armor and are at bit more subtle and don't draw attention to themselves. That draws attention, for sure. :winky:
I'm glad the female Charr aren't furry masturbation fodder at least

New GW2 blog post responding to community questions that followed last week's Dynamic Event information. It also notes that there will be further information tomorrow as well.
Interesting clarifications, but something did catch my eye:
All events reward you with experience, gold, and karma, which you can spend at merchants and vendors in the game to purchase rewards.
Karma as a currency?
Also a pretty sweet new screenshot (spoilered for huge) which seems to be related to the previously mentioned Event which concerns bandits attacking a water pipeline:

Loot will never be directly given as a reward for an event. The idea here is you should never feel like you need to participate in a specific event, or feel let down that you missed an event because it had a reward you really wanted.
All events reward you with experience, gold, and karma, which you can spend at merchants and vendors in the game to purchase rewards. This way, we’re rewarding you for participating in any event equally, so you can play in the events you discover, or the event types you really enjoy. We’ll never force you to wait around for an event to begin so you can get a specific drop or make you want to cause an event to fail because some other event in the chain gives you something you need. In Guild Wars 2, our princes and peasants are benevolent; they all reward you for participating in events, and then you can choose what to purchase with the rewards you have been given.
This caught my eye as well. Karma. It's probably like a universal reputation system that tells NPCs how awesome you are at heroically kicking ass in events and fighting the ofrces of evil and therefore how deserving you are to be purchasing good gear and materials from any given faction.

I don't get why furries get such a hard time, they're like the ginger kids of the internet. There are loads of way more confusing groups out there, like those people who fetishize intentionally getting and spreading AIDS.

EDIT: Wow. I get TotP in this thread with this comic and in the WoW thread, I got ToTP talking about the same subject, just with worgen.
No matter how many times I see that, I never remember Tychos final words being there initially. I distinctly remember this comic, and I swear that wasn't on there originally.

I know info is sparse, but do let's stay on topic. This is about GW2, not the varying levels of twisted nonsense that humans can come up with.
Here, another pretty screenshot to distract us:
Enig is right, and if I hadn't beat him to it, would most likely have come up with this thread in the first place. Let's keep focused on our undying hypefest for GW2 and leave the furry porn to Deviantart.
BTW, Enig is officially the thead's co-creator because most of the non-OP info we have is thanks to his virtuous trolling of Anet's blog and various other internet sources, and when I make a GW2 PA guild for us in beta/retail, I reserve the right to make him an officer.

I remember that too. My guess is Tycho wanted to emphasize his point.
I never thought of Charr as furries... is their something wrong with you or is it me?
Well, I thought of the characters in MTG terms because I am weird that way. Asura = blue, Charr = black, human = white, Norn = red, and Sylvari = green. Of course, my favorite magics are black and green because they work sooo well together. Am I just weird? Though Charr could be red. I just assume that Charr is the evilest race of the five.

If you listen to the podcast in which they write that comic, you'll find that the "a thousand times yes" bit was in there from the start.

They're anthropomorphic animals, which is the basic definition of "furry". They can be appealing to people such as myself, who really like that sort of thing.
I can see what you mean by the MtG thing, but you gotta remember - black is NOT evil. Black is selfish, greedy, and oftentimes associated with death and decay, but it's definitely not the same as evil.
The Charr could be many things, but I'd define them as a red base, with red/white or red/black for the different factions. Red/white to combine industry and ferocity with militaristic organization and a respect for law and order. Black for the more corrupt Charr, who seem to encourage chaos and destruction.
EDIT: Also, there's no evil race in GW2. The Charr are savage, yes, but not evil. They push industry, science, and are the most technologically-advanced of all the races.
EDIT EDIT: Fuck, I love how deep and well-designed each race is in this game. They don't fall into any of the fantasy stereotypes like, at all.

Golems I think, but more mechanical/scientific than magical.
I.e, they use a lot of alchemy and engineering to achieve magic, rather than spells or incantations. Though they are open to most things as long as it can serve them

lol noob sylvari are elves, charr are orcs, norn are giants, asura are gnomes and humans are humans, total WoW ripoff
I do think there is some predictability with the races; for example, Sylvari aren't really elves and are unusual in that they're young rather than old, but at the same time they have the inherent connection to magic and nature you'd expect, and I get this "purity" vibe from them -- it's a side-effect of being so young, I think, but it fits the archetype.
But the key word there is archetype. I have to hand it to ANet for doing something new with these templates, instead of doing what everyone else does. I don't think there are many games with "savage" races that are also the most technologically advanced.

The idea is that both races are very technologically advanced, but the Charr's technology is powered by physics, whereas the Asuras' is powered by magic.

I dunno, I'm kind of disappointed by how unimaginative their design is considering they're supposed to be plants. The leaves-for-hair thing is cool, but ultimately they look like elves. I was really hoping on something a little less... human.
It's possible that their human shape will be explained in the lore when it's finally revealed just what the heck they are, but I was expecting something half-plant, half-centaur. Why centuar? The Sylvari are influenced by the Ventari tablet, which was written by an old centaur called Ventari before he died and placed beneath their tree. Somehow, the Sylvari were born with knowledge and reverence of Ventari's writings... so why didn't they inherit his appearence, too?
A four-legged race might be unfeasible in gameplay terms, etc, so giving them a humanoid shape is fair. But the Sylvari don't have any centaur features: no hooves, tails, manes, fur, horns, or adorable little sheep faces.

Other than the pointy ears, Sylvari don't at all look like elves to me. The short stature, leafy hair and skin-tones, the "young" look.. not elvish. Also, non-physically, the Dream of Dreams is pretty unusual.
As for why they have human characteristics, the seed for the Pale Tree was planet by a human (Ronan) over the graves of his family who had been killed by the Mursaat. Perhaps something of the human "spirit" influenced the seed.

The marble tablet still bears Ventari's last words, and the Sylvari who emerged from the tree found themselves strangely guided by these ancient lessons. Whether the tree, tended by Ventari, somehow became imprinted with the noble Centaur's morals and ethics, or whether it absorbed both the remains of the Centaur's flesh as well as his compassionate soul upon his death, no one knows for certain. But it is certain that his influence over the Sylvari is strong, even so many decades after his death. Their race venerates the Ventari Tablet as their most sacred artifact and testament.
It's possible Ronan influenced the seed, but surely Ventari influenced it more! He's practically their god.
And so help me. If "Ronan planted the seed and that's why Sylvari have boobs" is the canon explanation, heads will roll.
Edit: with regards to the Sylvari resembling elves... honestly, I get an elvish vibe from them. I can appreciate the ways in which they're not elves, but they still feel like "the Guld Wars version of elves". I've talked to quite a few folks who felt that even more strongly than me. What they're supposed to be is almost irrelevant; I imagine we will be seeing a few arguments in fan forums and in-game over whether or not the Sylvari are elves.
Their hive mind is pretty awesome though. I'd roll a Sylvari if I wasn't convcined they're going to gain a reputation for only being rolled by prissy little girls.

Prissy little girl race or not (anyone who'd met me in person would laugh at that ), I definitely plan on rolling a Sylvari, and for me they are sort of my Elf-by-proxy, lore be damned!
...They are certainly Elf-ish, even if just in the Keebler sense rather than the Tolkien one. :P

Why don't I get my big Charr rifle and shoot you both for being lazy and not making me some real food?
Here's where I see the races archetypically:
Human = Human, duh. Polytheistic, multicultural, monarchists.
Norn = Big, Viking Humans. Pantheistic, warrior hunter-gatherers.
Asuras = Gnomes who lost their beards and became meerkats with long ears and big eyes.
Charr = Sabertooth cats who walk bipedally and enjoy engineering and big guns.
Sylvari = Not elves, more human but with a childlike innocence and a desire to do good. No pointy ears.
It's somewhat comparable to other fantasy lore, but I think it's still unique enough to give Anet props for coming up with some pretty good races to choose from. Naturally, I 'll be rolling Charr becasue they are an honourable mix of warrior and engineer and they look cool. And they want to shoot some Ascalonian mans.
EDIT: This kind of racial diversity will be badass when we make a PA guild, and all start experiencing the awesome aspects of our races.
