For some reason, I've had an itch to play one for a while, but I really have no idea where to look. I'm not interested in playing stuff that's put out to advertise movies or books or whatever, but rather, just sort of a "transmedia" game, I guess. Maybe something with emails, or finding clues on websites, etc.
Is this the thread where I can come in and scream "LIGHTNING BOLT! LIGHTNING BOLT!" every 5 posts and have it be completely on topic?
Probably not. There was a pretty good arg being run in Vancouver for a long time, something about tagging and hunting down people with hints from the web and twitter integrated into a neat little package. Sounded cool, but I hated the thought of riding the skytrain just to have some weirdo slap me in the face and yell PWND!
Though on the other hand I was *this close* to trying it out just for the hilarity of such a situation occurring.

That Marble Hornets thing was kinda cool, but there's not really any game involved in it. It's basically like Blair Witch split over 26 or so entries. It works for what it is, but it's not quite what I was talking about.
Looking around, it looks like Majestic was basically what I'm looking for. Except it's gone now, so no luck there.
Yea, Majestic went belly up.
If you live in Orlando, FL I might be able to set you up with a group.

Would Evidence count?
I mean, some of the sites/emails are plants set up by the company but they do encorage other players to work together and you have to go to other sites for research at various points in the game.

I think he means games that have interactions "outside" of the game.
Yup.
Dunno if it's any good. Work blocks it.

ARGs are more like very low key larping...or slightly dramatized geocaching/scavenger hunting.
I host a podcast about movies.
Most of the current ones are listed there.

I think that, and its prequel, are exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. Thanks man.
Edit: Realizing now that maybe I'm looking for just a pseudo-ARG. Oh well, haha.
EVE Online. People have been fired and sent to prison for wirefraud over this game.
We've got a PA corp in the game.
