Have your teammates use biotic barrier reducing abilities on the Praetorian. Keep your distance. If its the room I'm thinking of, you want to be up on the elevated area where you enter that area, and then circle counterclockwise around. Pop up to whittle down the barrier, using your teammates abilities. Once the barrier is down, switch to the Heavy Pistol with Incendiary, pop AR and unload a clip into it. Do this twice if you get time before he does his slam attack to refill his barrier. Keep that up and you'll eventually make it.

Alternatively, set your teammates up in safe firing positions, and just run around from cover to cover. The Praetorian will always focus you and follow you.

You mean run around the cover. That big convenient pillar in the corner of the room is quite handy for kiting the big bastard. Just hammer it with fire every time it's pausing to reload those eye beams and let your allies take care of the bulk of it. And keep your distance; if you get too close it can catch you in its ground slam even behind cover.

The worst part about that game was how you died the second your sprite touched a krogan and they were goddamn charging all the time. And of course the second player always stole your lives to come back when they sucked (which was always).

    Worst. Game. Ever.

Truthfully, vanguard wasn't all that special in ME1. It was like a half-assed hybrid of soldier and adept, and wasn't particularly wonderful at either. Infiltrator at least gave you enough tech stuff you could take any friendly you wanted without regard to whether they'd open locks for you or not. And the sniper rifle was handy for outdoors stuff if you dismounted from the Mako all the time.

Then when they did their review they turned Vanguard into something special--as well as differentiating all the classes nicely. I don't know who came up with the idea of teleporting across a battlefield to punch people in the face, but that person needs a raise.

Vanguard is great, but there are many situations where I get a little bit too overambitious about where I'm charging.

Especially in those situations like on Grunt's recruitment mission, there tend to be situations where they're coming from several sides and I manage to get myself nearly killed a lot.

I'm not sure I agree. I realise this will bring down the wrath on me, but Vanguard was my favourite class in ME1. I think it's overrated in ME2. It's supposed to be a hybrid between adept and soldier, not some completely separate semi-krogan monstrosity, that forces you to specialise in charging, not playing to the strengths of a soldier or adept which I what I thought a hybrid class should do. In ME1 the vanguard had a good range of biotic powers combined with the hardness of a soldier's shotgun use. In ME2 the class should be called "charger" and I would buy it.

Whoever gave them charge probably reread the class name and decided it should mean something instead of ME1's "just mix some powers together" classes.

Also, vanguards were ridiculous in ME1. They had the soldier's "make you invincible" and "recharge everything" powers plus a bunch of biotics and the shotgun power, so that with singularity as a bonus, they could pretty much just run into a room, draw everyone together into a cluster, shotgunrocket it, recharge and repeat.

Big fan of ME2 classes feeling distinct. :^:

    RAR, WRATH!

Actually, the problem in ME1 is that pretty much all the classes played the same. Unlock Lift or Singularity (preferably Lift), add it to the class, smack opponent(s) with Lift, shoot the crap out of them with Marksman or Overkill, repeat. Throw in additional abilities as available and necessary. But Lift is your bread and butter because it shuts everything down except turrets (and for turrets you just bring a tech user and use Overload on them).

Yes, there are differences between the classes...but once you get Colossus armor of any variety, everybody can take a rocket to the face. The real differentiation comes from 1) do you have assault rifles available or not? 2) which tech skills are available, so you can take (or not take) whichever ally you please 3) the variety of protection spells available (shield boost, barrier, immunity).

But I play Adept the same way I play Vanguard the same way I play Engineer in ME1.

Nah, Infiltrators have the "I LAUGH AT YOUR PUNY ROCKETS" power. Vanguards had Barrier, which while handy, is not nearly as powerful. And shotguns just don't have the DPS at higher difficulties; it's annoying.

Ah, right. Pretty goofy they give the "sniper" the damage reduction ability and the "front lines" guy the power recharge. Anyway, it didn't really matter if everyone was floating through the air languorously. Also, with prestige class their barrier could regenerate and the recharge cooled off faster.

I never played ME1 on higher difficulties. It just didn't seem very interesting with the old combat system.

I only play on Insane in ME1, because it forces me to use the cover system early on (and later against rocket wielding enemies; you can't take more than a couple of those before you hear that dreaded music).

    Maybe I'm a masochist...

Even on Insanity, a Soldier in Colossus with Electronics is taking a couple of rockets before his shields go down.

    ME2 is much less forgiving.

I think I'm starting to get the hang of the Infiltrator, finally.

    Cloak, Headshot, Reload, Repeat

Is the semi-auto sniper rifle any good for Infiltrators? Or is that more of a soldier thing?

Personally I like it a lot (in some ways better than a Widow), especially for things that don't go down in one hit.

The other benefit to the auto-sniper is that even if you don't need to put a couple of rounds into a dude, not having to reload after every shot is quite, quite nice.

It is incredible, and you should get it immediately.

I actually didn't use the Widow on my infiltrator playthrough, opting to learn ARs - it was my first time and I didn't know any better, okay? - but the Thane rifle worked fine for me.

Which is pretty moot once you've got Immunity; once he's got that maxed and specialized it's impossible to die without trying to.

It's most useful for other classes as an anti-armor weapon. I wouldn't bother with it as an Infiltrator.

Just beat Mass Effect 2 after having it since release....hmm kinda the same time frame when I played the first one.

Yeah didn't like it. Mass Effect grew on me after a second play through steaming through it. It may help ME 2 but the new gameplay additions and characters I really didn't like from start to finish. Other then Mordin and my old ME 1 crew I didn't like anyone else.

Eh so maybe another play through while only doing the main objectives will help out since I did pretty much everything on this one.
