He's not an anthropologist, or a sociologist, but something tells me he can understand the whole neoliberal postmodern guilt thing just like the rest of them. His argument seems very white-centric.

Because why, why the fuck would aliens capable of intergalactic travel not be able to synthesize their own petrol, or water, or toilets? I think he was influenced by Avatar, because an alien society who fucked up their own planet and are out on the prowl looking for a new one might do what he proposed in his new thesis, but unlikely. I refuse to believe most aliens of this caliber are asshole white, privliaged western upper class people who fucked everyone over to get to the top of the food chain.

    Hey bro

I uh, don't know if you've ever noticed this. But white people didn't invent taking advantage of less advanced societies. It is kind of endemic to our species. White people just did it the best with their colonialism and guns and big boats.

No way man. Know what the Maori did when white folks showed up and traded with guns? Built schools outta muskets.

Well at least school wouldn't be boring.

if advanced alien life shows up the best we can hope for is an independence day scenario

cause advanced lifeforms are all about travelling to far off places and ruthlessly butchering their inhabitants?

If Highrise spotted a group of cavemen on the surface of Mars, do you think NASA would launch a mission the same day to mount a giant laser onto the bottom of a shuttle and just fuck up their shit?

    but that's the thing though

I mean we ain't got any concrete data so any talk of aliens is pretty much masturbatory flappin' of the gums

but I don't think it's reasonable to assume that alien life would think like humans
it's not like they're just gonna show up and have this funky crest on their forehead and maybe their skin is purple or some shit and they speak a strange language but eventually we figure it out

well it might be like that, nobody knows shit

but the point is I'm more inclined to think that advanced alien life would A. not recognize our worth B. be openly hostile or C. be completely incomprehensible to the human mind

I'm more worried about the real issue that Columbus brought with him. Disease. It's doubtful that anything they have would be immediately suited to human bodies, but if they managed to evolve into something dangerous, the vast majority of the human race could be killed off because of our transit possibilities.
