Yep, and it's 10/26 in Canada. Guess the sled dogs take an extra day.
Yep. The only real selling point the 3ds has is the play screen is a little wider. The game itself is pretty foregttable however.
I do love virtual farming though that isn't retarded (read: Farmville)

Yeah, if you didn't like that one you probably won't get into this one much either. It plays like a cross between that and Grand Bazaar.

Nope, I had a pretty good tree minder right from the get go and I STILL don't have a mature oak tree. The only thing having multiple minders will affect is the type of tree they make. The number they work is determined by happiness and having multiples monsters won't matter. The growing length can only be shortened by pumping more Runeys into the island so it gets above 100%.
But like all Rune Factories, money just isn't a problem here. I just hit Summer last night and I already have my house and crafting areas maxed out.

I think it ended when Rune Factory 1 came out. Money's never been a complete issue but in the earlier games it was an issue at the beginning and lasted for a longer while then it does now.
It doesn't speed up growth time but happiness will result in more wood. The first tree I planted had 1 or 2, the later ones are 5-8. Ore works the same way. If you're noticing growth speed it probably has something to do with the amount of Runeys on the island increasing.
RF1 was the real start of them making everything easy. You gain friendship and affection like crazy in that game, not to even mention the heinous abuse of the economy you can participate in with ultra high level crops that pick and water themselves, mined gems that are worth hundreds of thousands, and other crap I'm completely forgetting.
That being said the two real HM games after that have interesting economic challenges added to the beginning and nothing is terribly abusable about them.
my issue is that I can no longer do this. No spoilers, but the point I'm at is pretty frustrating in terms of distance necessary to travel to gather runeys and options available to me.

I don't even think it has anything necessarily to do with the formula difference between the two series, but Rune Factory of late has just been so much more polished in pretty much every aspect (graphics, music, cast, dialogue, voice acting, UI). Two Towns is just hampered so much by such stupid things that shouldn't be present (text speed is ridiculously slow and you can't skip over loads of the repeated stuff every time you do a request, inventory is bad, status screens are decentralized and awful), they've been way more enjoyable. And literally two crops per season to start, unlocking to like four or five only in second and third year of play... Like seriously what : (
But I am excited. Hopefully it has someone as good as Selphy.
and no, Tides is full of boring people. I think even 2 had a more exciting cast.
Also this
I haven't even played the second one, and I bought it before I had a DS because it was so cheap.
That is all.

If this game was merged with RFF's characters I'd never need another game again. Instead of playing it forever though I basically rushed through the regular story mode in Tides and buried it out to sea.
Biggest problem with the characters is just that they don't interact with each other at all like in 3 and Frontier.
Biggest overall problem is that the actual game was pretty much done after the first oak harvest. I needed to grind those wastebaskets so I could set up my house with rocking tapestries anyway, I shouldn't get infinite money for it. And for all the monster taming focus, item producing monsters are a complete waste of time. It is sad to think just how much better this could be with any semblance of economic scaling or balance : (
But I can accessorize everybody so really all is forgiven.
I cruised through the main story and am now loaded up with the best weapon of every type and all of the best equipment (all star'd, of course). Next goal is getting as many character events as possible and doing the few fights I haven't done yet. Overall I'd say that Tides is my favorite Rune Factory game, although that's not to say it's without faults. The lack of runeys and the request board system are the main things it has over Frontier.
I really like how the weapons actually seem fairly balanced in this game. I'm always all about abusing the shit out of magic, and that is still very possible in this game, but there are reasons to use the other weapons. I switch to dual blades or my longsword a lot, and I used both katanas and hammers a lot during the story.

It's looking pretty good. Might have to get a 3DS when that stuff comes over here.
I had a lot of fun with it until I hit a brick wall as far as progressing in the game goes.
You basically have to revisit every single dungeon and plant some item there.
Worst part is I've been able to find absolutely no info that tells me what the fuck to do
I've got at least 10 hours of gameplay where I basically did nothing but try and talk to everyone and wander aimlessly around the world before just giving up.
Yeah, this is totally true. It was fun for awhile, and I like some of the characters, but overall it just wasn't up to par.
Have you tried GameFAQs? Harvest Moon style games usually have pretty terrible walkthroughs but there's a decent chance you could find the next thing to do.
