Windows 7 Jump Lists

Hey all

Maybe a month ago, I installed W7 on my new computer and have been enthralled with the jump list concept. There is, however, something I would really like to see if it can be done.

Right now, I open a folder on my desktop. I then right-click on the folder in the taskbar, and I can see all the other folders I've pinned to it. I then click on the folder I want to open, and Windows opens a new window for it.

Can I make it re-use the current folder?

Searched google, but I appear to have failed miserably, as most responses are talking about programming the jump-list into new applications.

Pin it first, then right click to use the jump list and then you'll only have one window.

    LoL Tribunal:
"Was cursing, in broken english at his team, and at our team. made fun of dead family members and mentioned he had sex with a dog."
"Hope he dies tbh but a ban would do."

That works for the first window, and does save me the trouble of going back to the desktop to open these folders.

Subsequent attempts continue to open multiple windows.

The worst part is that I would really need a way to switch between the current functionality and what I'm trying to make work. One hurdle at a time, though.

Right click on the pinned folder and then right click on the open option. I think that's the behavior you want right?

I don't see an open option in the initial jump list, and I cannot right-click in the initial jump list.

Lemme see if I can get some pictures up...

Not sure if that'll work, but basically - I have one folder already open. Pics, games, apps. Something. I right click (as shown) to view the jump list, and it creates a brand new window with the opened directory.

In terms of what already exists, I'm trying to make it work like this. Where when one of those is clicked, the current window displays the requested directory.

    It doesn't look like this?

nope. Won't let me right-click any of the options in the jump list. Maybe I disabled something by accident? Can you right click the downloads option there?

I sure can. I just right clicked on one randomly for the picture.
I just realized you want it to open in the current window and not in a new one one though. So my suggestion wasn't what you wanted. Sorry.

No worries, thanks for trying. I'll keep looking about.

I'm not sure if what you want to do is possible. Jump lists don't interact with open windows unless programmed that way. I know that Steam's jump list shortcuts for the Library and Store just change the view in the currently opened window, but Windows Explorer isn't designed as a one-window program.

That's pretty much what I've been learning, to my dismay.

I just like things to be uncluttered. Why is this so difficult?

Maybe you could make the folders you want links in the Favorites section so they all show up on the sidebar of each window? I never use the Favorites thing so I don't know if it shows everything.

It sounds like that would work pretty well. Clicking on one of the Favorites shortcuts reuses the same window, and you can add as many as you want. The only issue is if you have "Automatically expand to current folder" on in Folder Options; then you would have to scroll up to see them.

I'll look into this tonight. Thanks!
