Vehicles & Equipment

You’ll be equipped with the world’s most advanced and powerful vehicles and equipment (Post Ice Age). Discover the mobility, firepower, and protection of our aircraft and fighting vehicles, and explore our high-tech gear.

bf21422.jpg

Above all, you get to meet interesting people...and kill them!
In Battlefield 2142™, players choose to fight for one of two military superpowers - the European Union or the newly formed Pan Asian Coalition -in an epic battle for survival.

Armed with a devastating arsenal of hi-tech weaponry, including assault rifles, cloaking devices and sentry guns, players will also take control of the most lethal vehicles known to man. Massive Battle Walkers wage fierce combat on the ground, while futuristic aircraft rule the skies. When taking on this futuristic armor players will need to use their wits and an arsenal of new hi-tech countermeasures like EMP grenades and smart mines to level the playing field.

This game could be considered the real culmination of the efforts that went into making BF2 such a great game. It's a leaner, far more effective game that leaves little room for overpowering aircraft and vehicles. The infantry game is FAR more effective, and the maps seem better scaled to handle focus on infantry or armor combat. You have four classes to choose from, which might seem smaller compared to BF2 until you find out that they function much better as a whole. Multiple unlocks are available for class specific items, global items and squad leader only items. None are required to kill effectively or well, but they do give you an edge. Ranks are far more varied and deep compared to BF2, you will rank up quite often in this game, which is a nice change of pace. The Titan mode also mixes things up, making things a cross between Domination and close quarters infantry combat, all on a hovering carrier of death to everything below it.

Currently I am on active duty, and looking for a few good men...or chicks.

Edit: I will add Active duty to the OP as people post, hoping to set up a scheduled list of play nights. Our own server really isn't neccesary. Clan could be nice as well, if anyone is interested. Please post *Soldier* name if you want to be on the list.

Game on soldier!

Northern Strike Expansion Pack is out!

EA-Battlefield-2142-Northern-Strike.jpg
Three new maps provide the setting for the Booster Pack. High up in the Alps the EU uses launch pods to assault a PAC Titan docking harbour in the map Port Bavaria. Bridge at Remagen, the scene for one of WWII’s major battles, is once again the setting for intense battles as both sides fight to secure the bridge. Finally, night has fallen when the EU launches their assault on the city in the Liberation of Leipzig.

Battlefield 2142™: Northern Strike introduces two new vehicle types. The heavy IFV Goliath is a massive, slow-moving firing platform available to the EU. It is used to provide cover, as well as health and ammunition, to nearby infantry. The fast-moving hovering light IFV Hachimoto, available to the defending PAC only, is an efficient vehicle killer when staffed by a well coordinated pilot/gunner team.

A great, and best of all cheap expansion! It adds worthy new maps and some interesting new, kick ass vehicles to the mix, as well as giving each class a few extra unlocks, a few of which are almost a must in my layouts! Pick it up now!

If you truly believe this game is more infantry based, I may have to pick this up.

It's a FAR better mix of vehicles and infatry than BF2 ever was. There are far more ways to combat vehicles, with motion mines and the Pilum, which can basically take out tanks in one hit in the proper place (A hallmark of 1942 gameplay, which I missed). Jets are lightyears away from the powerhouses they were, and now serve supporting roles for the most part (IE they cant bomb everything into oblivion)

It can go either way. Titan mode has alot of infantry encounters once the shields go down. There are also maps in conquest mode that feature power in numbers. Groups pushing their way towards the next capture point and waves of enemies pushing back.

If only the game ran as smooth as those screen shots are sharp. (Unless they've tuned it up lately, I wouldn't know, I'm still kinda peeved about BF2's unfixed problems)

It does for me, not sure how it scales to other rigs though. Dual core with a 7800GT runs it at 30-60 at all times, with everything jacked up.

It's interesting people describing 2142 as being a more balanced experience. I'd guess that is the big advantage of having fantasy weapons and vehicles - you can actually make them balanced without having to pander to realism.

The Red/Blue bug doesn't exist in 2142, but still does in BF2. :P

Honestly the squad action can be top notch, if you get guys who care about what their doing, of course. Thus why I started this. I played BF2 to death and back, and I didn't think they could do it better, but they did.

See, I don't really understand this. The weapons in BF2 were all pretty closely balanced IMHO, the M16 to the Ak and the Anti-tank weapons and the unlocks all seemed relatively balanced (except the G36 medic rifle unlock, yeesh, that thing was tremendous). If there were any unbalances it was in the airplanes and choppers, which I think is more of a map design issue than actual game design balance issue.

I refer more to vehicle vs infantry combat. The vehicles were powerhouses in BF2, this is coming from a tank whore as well, mind you. The tanks were machines of death to everything, and really had no good weak points that either weren't tiny or really did much extra damage. The AT weapons were weak, and the jets were....well, you played right? Jets were ridiculous, and with AA being weak and badly placed, the game became a heavier vehicle based game than any in the series in a lot of ways. There are far more ways to handle vehicles in this game, with much more exploitable weak points, as well as jets/air vehicles being far more toned down from the bombers of death that they were.

Fantasy weapons and vehicles? Have you played 2142? The most futuristic shit we have is one hover tank, a mech, and perhaps the pilum. Everything else runs on treads, bullets, and is still as inaccurate as it was in 1942. It's not that they've stopped pandering to realism, it's that they put in a scenario(Ice-Age) which justified support status air vehicles, instead of jets bombing the shit out of everyone.

It isnt turning into a BF2 vs 2142 thread, or a bashing thread. I am arguing that the game is more balanced because they removed heavy damage aerial vehicles and justified the use of much weaker vehicles centered around troop transport.

Works for me then. Sorry, too used to people blowing threads into out of proportion game arguments and EA bashing. I agree entirely, they really needed to move it out of the realm of 'trying to recreate real vehicles' but still keep it modern.

Edit: FYI folks, yes, they announced an expansion pack today!

Looks and sounds actually...spiffy. Didn't just tack on extra maps and a few reskinned vehicles. I like the idea of limited conquest, where you can't just take their main base without taking every other base first.

See, I never found tanks a big issue. In a lot places, the tanks could not cap the point and I could hold out until reinforcements arrived to deal with it. If I were AT (which happened a lot depending on the map), unless I was out in the open, the tank was dead in two shots to its rear quarters. Also, both sides would have equal access to tanks and apcs of equal performance, thus balance. I never really felt the vehicles were unbalanced, just that some maps threw unbalanced amoutns and constant respawns at you.

I would've have preffered it if there was a system set up where a commander could spawn a vehicle (to a set limit) for his team at a site at any given time (or perhaps squad leaders with permission) that would then use up some of the tickets for the team. Almost like a RTS'esque resource management.

Man that's a good idea, I should write this crap down.

Not a bad idea, actually, Sort of like the jeep spawning commanders could do after so many patches. Still, it would have to be done carefully, but I like the idea of giving commanders more to do.

I bought this, played for a while to get a feel for the unlocks, then reinstalled BF2 to play that instead. Just didn't have the patience for this game. 2142 has some fun moments, however. A skilled pilot/gunner duo in a mech can be quite fun, and I like the EU pistol.

No, there aren't really, pepsi or otherwise. There were some reports of a few computer related ads (video cards or somethign) but I've never seen them, they never really went through with the thing. Even if they did, the billboards are in such odd places you rarely go by them much.

As for the gunships SA...ehr, I think you miss the point, so you obviously bombed the hell out of everyone in BF2. Gunships are fine now, I can do quite a lot of damage with them..I just can't rack up 50 kills and 0 deaths like in BF2. They aren't the god machines of death that they once were, and the AA is competent, which is a good thing.

OK Guys. I'm getting pretty far into the game. Play it lots. I am trying to get my silver healing badge though.

I find ammo giving points flow like milk and honey by just popping out an ammo box.

    Healing points though?

All I need is 10 heals in a round.

Good fucking luck. I will heal 3 or 4 people with a kit and not get one point.

What in the hell determines getting a healing point?

Google Talk: ludious83 My Blog: The Caustic Geek
  • ToyDToyD Registered User regular
You have to heal the equivalent of 100% of a person's life to get a point. Doesn't have to be the same person. Best bet is to join a squad and follow them into the action. If they're a good squad and sticking together, the healing/revives will also flow like milk and honey. Thing is, they have to be in the action getting shot at, otherwise you get no points for healin/revivin. Titan def/attack might also work with a good squad, attack moreso, but you may end up with a bunch of revives instead.

Over all I find 2142 to be a much more balanced game than BF2. Any sort of massive killing strategy requires some teamwork and co-ordination. So if you like to play nicely with others this is the game for you. If you prefer to to just fly around the map by yourself it's just not possible anymore.

Sooner or later your attack ship will get blown up and another player will get to have their turn in it.
