Super Meat Boy: A game about jumping
Posts
Wait, no, nevermind. I managed to score a time of 4.18 seconds, by beating the rock to the portal after hundreds of times. #11 on the leaderboard, which means #1 if you ignore all the obviously incorrect times, fuck yeah!
The one frustrating thing, though, is that the replay I saved is... wrong. Naiga's path is right, but it seems like she collides with a rock, when no such thing actually happened. Are all the objects in the world off by a tenth of a second in the replays, like the timer is?
You can get through that first portal with Meat Boy before the rock as well. I was so proud of my time on that level until I saw I was in the 100's on the leaderboard. I thought for sure that getting through the portal before the rock was a win.
Sorry, I meant the second portal. I got through the SECOND portal before the second rock could, which shaved off almost a full second because not only did I not have to dodge that rock (and that means jumping between it and the saw), but I also didn't have to wait for the portal to re-open.
After about twenty tries, I somehow, magically, finally got the bandage on the second level of the Key Master warp zone from Chapter 4, and then I screwed up the third level because I thought about it too much. God, I suck.
All Worlds, All Replays, yes.
It was neat! I never used him in the main game because he's worthless but they did a great job of catering specifically to the things that make him unique in the internets

I won't get it until the level editor comes out. Come out, level editor!
I find it pretty dumb that basically the rewards for 100%/100 bandages are two characters that serve absolutely no purpose. I'd rather have reskins or something.

if your map necessitates spawn points
it is too masochistic
My poor arm. I will probably develop carpel tunnel from his levels alone. I got through all but the last 5 levels of cotton ally faster than I completed The Kid's levels.
The Kid gets two midair jumps if you walk off a ledge, too. Interestingly, Josef also gets a midair jump this way. I'm not sure about other characters.
Haha.
Awesome.
it's more impressive when josh complains about it
Also, the 1-19 (or whatever I was asking about) warp zone access is silly. I mean really. Just.... *sigh* Still, that's two more bandages down! woo!
So, switching from keyboard to a gamepad has been odd. Are you all sure it's more precise? Because I'm not really getting that vibe - it seems like it takes me longer to switch left-right direction using the D-pad than using arrow keys, and I can't figure out how it would be helpful to use the control stick.
Then one time, I walked off the first platform as usual, and I dunno, I just felt some sort of clarity. The screen was all I could see. My controller and I were one. I could see the next jump, step by step, and pulled it off miraculously, as if in slow motion. I was in the zone. This was the time. I was going to get the kid!
Then I died.
FUCK!
Ok, so that's not just me. It's not terrible or anything. I just figured I was missing some subtle timing thing or something.
I got a gamepad recently, after I beat the first world using the keyboard. It was an instant improvement for me. I remember playing this with a keyboard as a torturous experience.
Of course YMMV. I'm sure my old ass keyboard isn't designed with any kind of gaming in mind. A keyboard made with gamers in mind would probably be fine.
I'm picking this up in between sessions with other games (freaking Steam holiday sales are ridiculous), and I'm slowly but surely making progress. I need to boost my performance curve before I can really contemplate any long sessions with this game. After beating a couple of levels, I turn into mush and can't even get simple timing or jumps. Strangely, I don't find this discouraging. I know that I just keep playing a bit here, and a bit there. Let stuff fall into place, everything will click sooner or later.
I thought The End had a lot of saws D:
I also spent 25 mins trying to get the kid, yes I was unsuccessful. Some day....
I pronounce it bee-log.
I don't know. I sorta feel like Super Meat Boy is a game that's not designed to be fully completed by everyone (or even most people).
