Should I install this software?

Someone gave me a free copy of Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security, and I was wondering whether or not to install it.

See, what with Norton's Antivirus crap and similar programs, I'm kind of hesitant about installing some 'virus protection' program I know nothing about - is it a system hog? Is it intrusive? Hard to install?

I've currently got AVG Free, AdAware and Spybot S&D as my virus protection programs.

Does anyone know anything about this?

considering that AVG has a higher detection rate than PC-cillin, I wouldn't.

but if you aren't satisfied with AVG, try it out; AVG will always have a freeware version you can return to.

personally, I recommend the AOL-branded free version of Kaspersky antivirus, which is called Active Virus Shield.

my experience with Active Virus Shield is that it is light on the system resources, very simple to use, it updates silently, it's free, and it has the highest detection rate of any anti-virus program, payware or freeware.

but of course, you should always choose what you are comfortable with.

IIRC it's a pretty effective (well, at least their latest version) personal firewall, though I don't know about the rest of the package or it's intrusiveness/hoginess.

Here's the wiki article on PC-cillin - they don't mention anything about it being hard to uninstall, so I'd try it out.

I had a ton of problems with the free Kaspersky. Kept on giving me BSOD. I think there's a handle leak that appears if you're using p2p software with it. The most recent retail version has fixed this, IIRC, but the free version is from an earlier version.

PC-cillin is a known company. I think it's particularly popular in Asia. Never tried it, so I can't say anything about it.
