Welcome to the Let's Play of Metro 2033!

metro2033wiki.jpg

Tkane kindly donated this for me to Let's Play, thanks man!

I've been told that this is a horror/shooter set in the future under Russia. Sounds intresting to me.

As usual, I have never played the game and therefor have no idea what to expect. Good for the scares and you, bad for me and my trousers.

What's Wikipedia say about it?

Metro 2033 is an action-oriented video game with a combination of survival horror, and first-person shooter elements. The game is based on the novel Metro 2033 by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky.

The game is played from the perspective of a character named Artyom. The story takes place in post-apocalyptic Moscow, mostly inside the metro system where the player's character was raised (he was born before the war, in an unharmed city), but occasionally the player has to go above ground on certain missions and scavenge for valuables.

The game's locations reflect the dark atmosphere of real metro tunnels, albeit in a more sinister and bizarre fashion. Strange phenomena and noises are frequent, and mostly the player has to rely only on their flashlight to find their way around in otherwise total darkness. Even more lethal is the surface, as it is severely irradiated and a gas mask must be worn at all times due to the toxic air.

The layout

The video will be posted in sets. These will usually be from 2 - 4 videos and contained in the spoilers.

It has a few bugs and issues that led to it getting a few mixed reviews. If you can put up with such things it is a very rewarding and immensely atmospheric game.

Yeah. For example, I've had it checkpoint-save on me in a place, that whenever I reloaded I simply died. No idea why, I just dropped dead about 1 sec after reloading o.O

I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.
My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.

Good sets. Played this just recently after its Steam sale; great game.

Something to note; red boxes on the wall, and red oblong wooden crates can be opened and usually have goodies inside. For example, the train you were in before suicide-train had three crates for you to open.

    Awesome Set!
The Lost Catacombs was crazy... I'm sure you'll love it :D Can't wait

    So, just a few things...

    - Remember to charge your flashlight (hold F and then left-click until it's at maximum). Do this periodically, the light quality goes down fast and it's really useful.
    - You only use the good ammo if you reload by HOLDING r. You can notice you're using the good one when the ammo icon in the bottom-right that's inside the round box is "shiny" or "golden". It's usually not a good idea to use them, they're worth too much and usually a waste.
    - Always scavenge your enemy's body! Usually they have spare ammo in their pockets, vest or belt.
    - Use the lights on your watch to know if you're hidden or not. Green is hidden, Red is easy to see.
    - Don't use all your medpacks. They're useful later on when you're getting ganged constantly by Demon Rats and other "friendly" beings.
    - There is NO quicksave :(
    - Don't overdo the mask. You usually notice when you must use it (green smoke or outside - for example, when on the train platform you didn't have to use it, only when you went down did you have to). Other than that, you're wasting filters, if you get shot wearing it, after a couple shots it WILL END UP BREAKING, then you've got to find one lying around in a dead body... Not fun when, later on, you go outside :)
    - Take care of your "friends". If they die, you lose... Really annoying later on.

    - Grab a new machine gun as soon as possible. The rookie one is really AWFUL. Don't buy one tough, you get loads of good guns for free from the bandits or just left lying around (you missed quite a few this set). To pick up weapons just look at one and hold F.

EDIT: Did we pick up weapons by holding F? I think it was E instead... Just try random keys :P

You'll see some examples of the awesomeness next set, or whenever you get to go outside.

Yeah, it has a few scripts. It also has rather annoyingly some gamestate invulnerable enemies. For example, on the same handcart, when Helloween is spamming into the ones a fair bit back from the cart, those are invulnerable. You can't kill 'em. The general rule is that you can only kill them up close and personal.

Also, Helloween? The pistol is useless beyond 5ft. You need a longer barrel or a stock for it to have any decent accuracy at range.

I believe he already saw one of those browsing the merchant's stocks in the first set, before he left on the train car, but skipped buying anything because he needed gear from the armoury and was poor. Perhaps the next merchant he meets will carry one.

There is a hidden one you can get for free pretty soon. This game is all about scavenging stuff so you always need to keep a look out for hidden stuff. Bourbon will only go so far ahead and then wait for you when you go off to explore.

Also, the bit at the beginning with Bourbon when he says 'if you want to be unexpected, don't touch the cans!' and 'watch out for the fucking glass' just floored me when I went through it. I then proceeded to walk both into the cans and on the glass.
