The eel in Gabe's drawing...? (6/14)

In the picture that Gabe posted yesterday morning, I am perplexed by the inclusion of the FISH.

I feel like this is something I ought to remember, and it's driving me crazy trying to figure out what that eel is in reference to! I doubt it's random...

I looked back through the comic archive, searched the forums, and google, but to no avail... D:

Anyone know?

    I'm inclined to say that it's Twisp and Catsby, so it doesn't really have to make sense.

    Alternatively, are we sure it's an eel? It could just be an ordinary fish. Well, as ordinary as 4 foot tall flying fish being ridden by demons and anthropomorphic cats get when attacking a giant sentient fruit juicer.
