Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

How is a tip jar controversial.

The tip jar isn't, differing social expectations surrounding tipping and whether it should be thought of as on obligation are.

The conversation always seems to revolve around the fact that (really broad generalisation time) Americans seem to use and/or expect tipping in a much broader variety of contexts than Europeans.

I dunno man, I just tip according to social norms of where I'm at and don't expect America to become like Europe or vice versa.

    NO.

I do not understand rich people sometimes

my boss refused to get coffee from the kitchen the other day because it would have been the last cup and she would have had to make another pot

and then today she opened our little mini fridge, exclaimed at the lack of beverages, and then walked away

Rich, doesn't exactly mean big spenders. Some of the most frugal people I know have a ton of money they aren't spending.

neither of these things would cost money

she just thinks she's above making coffee? to the point where she would rather not drink any than make a pot?

and also if i go to a cafe and they make little designs with the foam from making my latte (like the coffee shop down the street from me does) then they obviously get a tip

hell i would tip bagboys who correctly bag groceries if it wasn't actually illegal (from my experiences working in a grocery store, anyway)

I wouldn't have to worry about that where I live. Bagboys in Bothell are the slowest baggers in the whole fucking world, and they throw shit in there. So I don't know they sure as shit aren't placing things anywhere near "properly".

Eye visits aren't typically too costly and neither are glasses / contacts. So I don't mind having to pay for those out of pocket. Dental work is incredibly expensive, and my dentist has this really nasty habit of doing extra work without asking, then charging for it. I'm just glad my teeth are generally pretty good.

Your dentist really only has consent to do what you've told him can do. If he's doing extra stuff without telling you and getting your consent, he's committing battery.

    FYI.

I didn't care that he sealed 3 additional teeth. I did care that my bill was suddenly $100 higher than I thought it would be. In the end, he didn't make me pay for the additional stuff but man, that was irritating.

I don't think you have to be rich to have that attitude.

    EDIT: sounds like a douche.

A job bagging groceries is just.. such a non-job imo.

I always put my own shit in bags, it's not difficult.

Also paper bags for groceries is the worst thing ever. Paper bags get wet and then break, it's just retarded.
