This creature walked in the front door and thoroughly scared the living daylights out of us:

    I would be amazed if that turned out to be a hissing cockroach.

    Also, Madagascar hissing cockroaches are (unsurprisingly) native to Madagascar and haven't really spread outside of that area as far as I'm aware.

    edit: It definitely does look like a Palo Verde Root Borer, OP. I wouldn't worry myself about cockroaches at all.
