Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
The Whining Forum: AWESOME POST in "Soccer is bullshit", by Yar
Soccer victory is decided by people faking victimization, and by a corrupt, powerful official who is not held accountable.
To most people in the world, that is how life works. Some asshole fakes it and gets lucky, or a corrupt government lurches mysteriously into or out of your favor. You struggle endlessly, but your struggles are far less likely than these to result in meaningful progress. Either way, the progress will be barely measurable, and you'll likely end up with the same low measure as everyone else.
So soccer makes sense as a sport.
Except in America, where we expect, insist, that shit be designed fair. That officials, while not perfect, be transparent and held accountable. That while nothing is guaranteed, successful efforts usually lead to successful results, and a meaningful margin defines each victor. That's how we see life, and what we expect in sport.
So soccer is boring and pisses us off. Like most of the rest of the world is boring and pisses us off.
You obviously don't live in Seattle where the burning rage against the Pittsburgh Steelers still burns 3 years later.
edit: To sum it up, after an outstanding season, the Seattle Seahawks made it to the superbowl and had several points lost to suspicious calls by the referees and obtuse rules that seemed to be cited for the Steelers' benefit.

NFL spends the most time of any major sports organization rewriting rules and making up new ones for increasingly obscure situations. Ironically, this leads inevitably to it having some of the most ludicrously bullshit rules in sports.
Take all those points together, and you get a picture of a system that’s paternalistic, exclusionary and destined to fail — in short, it's not unlike several economies in Europe.

edit mk 2: I was looking for Horsey's comic on the game but found this instead, in the end, at least we don't live in Pittsburgh.
